Neo-Nazis across the US are attempting to embed themselves within rallies in support of #Palestine. But fascists aren't 'anti-war' or in 'solidarity' with Palestinians - they're white supremacists attempting to use the movement as a way to mainstream their anti-Semitic and racist conspiracy theories. They don't oppose settler-colonialism or State violence - its at the heart of their entire political project.
Watch the others in the room. The assholes who jeer and manhandle the protestors. These are your peers in the tech industry. These are the “acceptable folks” in tech. Fuck these people.
Look at their faces. They know exactly what they’re complict in. Look at their smug smiles. Dickheads each one.
The New York Times reports the tech has mistakenly identified people as connected to Hamas. Israel has deployed a mass facial recognition program in the Gaza Strip, creating a database of Palestinians without their knowledge or consent, The New York Times reports. The program, which was created after the October 7th attacks,...
There’s been a lot of talk about #socialmedia companies’ power as users post support for #Palestine and report subsequent shadowbans.
We looked into it on Instagram—and found the platform:
⚠️ suppressed hashtags
⚠️ demoted photos of soldiers, tanks, and city ruins
⚠️ deleted captions without warning
⚠️ categorized comments criticizing Israel + supporting Palestine as “spam”
⚠️ limited users’ ability to appeal moderation decisions
⚠️ more.
I don't mean to be all political, but I do not think killing over 3,000 children, including premature babies, is the best way to show that you condemn terrorist violence.
"It is the first time since the Oct. 7 attack that the U.S. has stopped a weapons shipment intended for the Israeli military."
I would hope those on the left recognize this as a tangible improvement in US policy in the region. We can certainly want more and think this is not enough while also recognizing the progress (much of which is likely stemming from the recent pushback and protests).
A person driving a truck with right-wing stickers pulled a "splatter ball gun" on pro-Palestine protesters at a rally. Several armed rally goers pulled their own weapons, and forced the person to drop their weapon and also remove their mask.
"Two individuals within the march rushed to the front, drew their own handguns, and ordered the man to immediately drop his weapon and take off his mask to which he complied. After doing so, he took his mask off. As the two individuals kicked the now-unmasked man’s weapon away,"
"'I do not think we should be appropriating $10.1 billion for the right-wing, extremist Netanyahu government to continue its current military approach. What the Netanyahu government is doing is immoral, it is in violation of international law, and the United States should not be complicit in those actions,' Sanders argued on the Senate floor."
Listen to Israeli survivors: they don't want revenge
"In a eulogy for her brother Hayim, an anti-occupation activist who was murdered in Kibbutz Holit, Noi Katsman called on her country “not to use our deaths and our pain to cause the death and pain of other people or other families. I demand that we stop the circle of pain, and understand that the only way [forward] is freedom and equal rights. Peace, brotherhood, and security for all human beings.”
World Central Kitchen says it has 276 trucks with eight million meals ready and will resume distributing food in Gaza nearly a month after seven workers were killed in an Israeli airstrike. "Ultimately, we decided we must keep feeding," the charity said on Sunday. BBC News reports: https://flip.it/moViEt #News#WorldNews#Israel#Gaza#Hamas#Palestine
Since October 7th, I've joined protests, fundraising events for Gaza, and students on university campuses.
As a Jew and someone who has a ton of friends and family in Israel, I want to share some thoughts on claims of antisemitism in student encampments and the broader Palestinian solidarity movement:
I joined the Biden Administration because I believe in fighting for a better America, for a future where Americans can thrive: one with economic prosperity, a healthy planet, and equal rights for all people. I have dedicated my career to candidates who I believed would further this vision.
“Words fail us to describe the absolute horror being inflicted on Palestinian civilians by Israel as it carries out incessant and indiscriminate warfare in Gaza for all the world to see.”
– Dr Christos Christou, International President, Médecins Sans Frontières
I am not pro-Palestine or anti-Israel. This isn’t a football game between two equally-matched teams where you support your favourite. I am anti-genocide and Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people.
Israeli children, likely belonging to communities of settlers and religious-messianic Jews, having fun destroying aid supplies meant for Gaza.
Useful context is that one of the most common one-liners I hear from Israelis, to this day, is: "the conflict will end when they stop teaching their children to hate us".
Israel quietly rolled out a mass facial recognition program in the Gaza Strip (www.theverge.com)
