It was a ~50h long performance...

@richard well no, I don't memorise anything. let's say it's a sort of improv show running for several weeks?

Don't miss the chance to visit Galileo's home just 200m away, they just started the public openings during the weekend!

I predict the next big cult of the Sun will be started by radio astronomers, whose life has become way too much dependent on the cycles of solar activity these days.
Human sacrifices of post-docs and phd will be the next step I guess. 😬

covering in radio from ~100kpc to ~10pc in scales (!) this study support the idea that the dynamics of this system is explained by a binary supermassive black hole merger

Sources of magnetic fields appear in this universe - which just samples the first ~1/10 of evolution of a big 2048^3 simulations running on LEONARDO at CINECA (using a customised version of the ENZO code), and it just samples a thin slice through the simulation.

Magnetic field strength on the left, gas density on the right.
The injection of magnetic fields here only follows the onset of star formation (and later on of active galactic nuclei).

Your friend has impeccable taste for crucial questions!

Here a biased list of things:

I start with some "classical" material:

next, the latest results and my opinion:

@hfalcke

-https://arxiv.org/abs/2009.01539 test of models allowed by CMB

next, my summary:

franco_vazza,
@franco_vazza@mastodon.social avatar

@hfalcke

My take:

  • B in galaxy clusters (e.g. Coma is very well observed) is explained by both seeding from galaxies or primordial fields;

  • the combination of lower limits in voids from blazars, and statistical detections in radio (RM + synchrotron) excludes a purely astroph. origin of cosmic B.

  • current modelling of RM in LOTSS prefers primordial models with power on large scales (hence, inflationary).

  • extra: this may explain the GW background 🤯 nhttps://arxiv.org/pdf/2009.14174

This is an astrophysics take of the : I have just used the CosmicRay Detector app on my laptop by the Global Cosmic Ray Observatory https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cosmic-ray-detect-radiation/id1169131314

to measure the flux of muons through the blocked shutter of the Ipad.

I don't have stats to compare with, but since I have already done the same experiment in the last two weeks speaking of cosmic ray detection at lecture, I have the feeling the muon flux is a bit higher now (~1 event/second).

People with a passion in science: cool, I am going to look up in the sky all night!

Radio astronomers: desperately rushes to change the schedule of her incoming observation at the Very Large Array even before having breakfast.
