Greek archaeologist Valerios Stais discovers the Antikythera mechanism, an ancient mechanical analog computer.
The mechanism is composed of at least 30 bronze gears housed in a wooden frame. It features dials, pointers, and inscriptions that correspond to various astronomical cycles. The front dial is believed to show the zodiac and the solar and lunar calendars, while the back dials include the Metonic, Saros & Callippic cycles.

After years of searching, astronomers have finally detected an atmosphere on a rocky planet around another star.
But what a strange planet it is! 55 Cancri e seems to be blanketed in carbon dioxide gas bubbling out of a global ocean of lava. Like an image out of Dante's Inferno.
This scattered collection of stars is actually an irregular dwarf galaxy called Holmberg IX. It resides just off the outer edge of Messier 81, a large spiral galaxy located 11.8 million light years from the Milky Way and located in the direction of the Ursa Major constellation.
