I asked my small biz customers to pay by check or e-check and many actually have! I have to invoice them separately so it’s tedious but the real ones are down. well, the real ones plus the lady from Texas who told me she was happy to start getting in the habit of paying for things by check due to the 15 minute city people eventually using credit cards to shut down commerce from longer distances 🤗

seachanger,
@seachanger@alaskan.social avatar

@mivox cool people created the 15 minute city concept as a framework for localizing necessities for bikeable/walkable/mass transit neighborhoods and cities, and weirdos have turned this into a conspiracy theory in which people are told the libs will be walling them in and punishing anyone who goes beyond their zone

@seachanger@alaskan.social avatar

and btw I know it’s not for everyone here but if you’re someone who buys salmon etc from the store you might be interested in perhaps purchasing it from my family? I send our fish to fish clubs in cities all over the place, because this is the only way we can control how much we get paid for our labor http://www.schoolhousefish.com

@mivox apparently 😳

@kristinHenry @mivox it is astonishing, luckily I had learned about the 15 min City Conspiracy from @TheWarOnCars so I didn’t have to ask any follow up questions

@inquiline @mivox I don’t recall them talking about Evs but I might have missed that part, but totally makes sense and I agree. I think you point to why sometimes unbelievable theories are believable: because they land on existing mythology. in this case the long standing story that cars & oil are special weapons against tyranny, which no doubt the oil industry itself built on top of pre existing settler narratives

@gretared we mostly ship frozen fish which people pick up and then keep in their freezers. I have fish clubs for these in SF, Oakland and Marin

I also have some coho smoked as a shelf stable product which I ship via usps and is similar to canned salmon but a little different

When I saw this web story about ‘terraforming Singapore’ I was floored. What a great use of the web to tell a story about a country, land use, sand, environmental degradation, and the price of ‘progress’. Singapore’s success, skyscrapers, comes at the cost of literally mining and eroding some of our poorest neighbors’.

This story is so important and had to be told. Oh and it also won some awards! Proud of the friends who put this together

'“Do you think her going after your eyelashes, that that, in itself, is racist?” State of the Union host Jake Tapper asked Crockett on Sunday.

“I think her specifically doing it to me, yes, that was the intent,” Crockett said.'

Agreed. It was a #racist dogwhistle.

@benroyce that’s when you realize how fierce and talented our women of color congress folks are, they get dealt that double standard on fucking capital hill every day — still they’re human and need and deserve all the extra love and support to stay healthy amid that buuuullllshit

@inquiline extremely therapeutic, can confrm. living in the lushness of the rainforest soothes my autonomic nervous system, I can feel it happening in spring

@mivox the forest service Re did one of our main trails in Petersburg and the contractor really nailed a few stretches with the rock work, it always inspires me and I walk it pretty much constantly. that’s the power of good infrastructure on public land 😂

seachanger,
@seachanger@alaskan.social avatar

@mivox idk what pot of money this one came out of but it also has heli-placed aluminum stairways 😂over several steep areas people used to get lost in, it is a masterpiece! The cool thing is that it has legit gotten so many more people hiking regularly because it is actually accessible to everyone who can walk, plus the first section is wide enough for walkers etc too — it’s really been transformational, worth every penny

seachanger,
@seachanger@alaskan.social avatar

@scott @inquiline you gaias I went on a walk yesterday and could barely move forward because of all the leaf photos needing to be taken
