@impermanen_ There are two contexts here (at least): one, I'm sure many uni's esp elite private ones have similar reporting infrastructure (https://report.usc.edu/frequently-asked-questions/ ); but specifically at USC, with the past several years' scandals, there has been a special effort to encourage essentially horizontal reporting. Notwithstanding the fact that in those scandals, reports came in, that administrators ignored over & over; the accountability has never actually trickled upwards.

@impermanen_ reporting forms in protest to report feelings of unsafety after LAPD swept campus twice; but in the main it's there to hold disciplinary threat over everyone, ofc.

The hypocrisy & hollowness beggars belief. Admins canceled the Muslim valedictorian's commencement address out of "security" concerns but then managed to still hold a commencement pep rally for tens of thousands of people at LA Coliseum. Shameful. They must hold a very low opinion of campus community's reasoning skills!

Other people who live in humid climes and buy garlic powder in the large containers: how do you keep it from becoming a giant unusable mass. This is my second container since I moved here, I thought since the first was powder rather than granulated that was the problem, but the granulated does it too.

(Don't @ me about using garlic powder, it's one of the secrets to a great egg & cheese sandwich and I eat a lot of those, ok?)

@seachanger I've happened to be in the right place at the right time for a few good hits of spring greening since moving out here and they were extremely restorative. It took me a long time to see anything besides scrubby brown here & I do now love the the subtle brown-greens in the canyons in spring and such, but there's no substitution for a wall of fresh leaf, either

I had a really good experience at #Petrocultures overall, despite heaviness of context (USC). I'm really excited that I met a tradeswoman elder/labor studies scholar & filmmaker who has been doing a ton of stuff on climate justice in the building trades. Also a bunch of other cool people + new ideas to think through. Shout-out to @inquiline for all her work co-organizing the conference with so much care and attention to accessibility & political circumstances. (My first fedi in-person meetup!)

@libroraptor That sounds beautiful! And that's the thing about rhubarb--there's usually more. My mom was even mailing it to me in CA sometimes, stalks are hardy enough to survive a couple days in transit fairly intact (and then go into the freezer)
