@johnmark Except you were not here for these conversations. You can't correct me on the content of the exchanges, nor on the fact that 70% of US voters actually favor abortion access, unions, and environmental measures; the reason we don't have those things isn't bc of voters or their beliefs

Anyway what I do or don't do in California is irrelevant, which is also a not-insignificant part of the issue here

In an extremely unbelievable and yet also perhaps predictable turn of events, the house two classmates and I are in the process of renting, furnished, looked like just another way-overpriced 3bd airbnb thing. But then a particular feature caught my eye, a room-length custom desk ..

Friends, we are about to rent the house we almost bought. And got blocked from buying. So that as an international graduate student I don't exploit and damage the market.

It's now corporately owned, with 38 others.

@Mikal @jordinn Yeah. Unfortunately to get housing more under control, but to wrest it back from speculators and investors (which IMO needs to happen, somehow) would also mean hurting a lot of regular homeowners whose entire worth is tied up in their home. Policymakers should never have allowed it to get this out of control, never.

*I say this as a renter who watches the chasm between my earnings and housing prices grow by staggering amounts each year.
