I joined mastodon this past November. Things have gone well! My feed is very busy. Filled with interesting things. A bit ago I released the first book of this new mastodon era. A 3rd edition of my Southern Gothic Flash Memoir omnibus. Would mastodon work for book promo? Of course! I've had sales and more importantly heaps of interaction. Mastodon folks have stopped by local events. There are other social media platforms. But if you want to share and discuss your work? This is the place to be. #writing#FlashMemoir#poetry#florida#books#bookstodon#author#mastodon
My stepmom has dementia, but was/is a gardener and flower arranger. She no longer reads words well, but loves looking at pictures of perennials, gardens and flower arrangements. I’d like to get her a gift of a book or book with large beautiful pictures of flowers and gardens. Any suggestions before I go to a bookstore?

“The Autism Books by Autistic Authors Project is an (ongoing) attempt to catalogue all books — non-fiction and fiction — written about and related to autism by Autistic authors.”
There are over 1,000 books catalogued! Including mine and other authors I see in my #actuallyautistic feed here on Mastodon.

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
I loved the folktale quality to this book and sought to reflect that in the design by using a lot of pattern. The story also has motifs of silver turning into gold and ice & fire.
"go to hell" or "fuck you" is boring and basic. "i hope your favorite book gets turned into a horrible movie or tv show, with a horrendous cast and script" is smart. it's terrifying. it's possible.
It's November, which is Native American heritage month - a perfect time for my Indigenous Futurism reading rec list to drop. Shepherd is building a platform to connect readers with writers and books often suppressed by algorithms that love hegemony.
I had never read this before. And that was a hole in my reading, given I'm in my 6th decade.
1984 is one of those books everyone should read. Yes, it's heavy-handed. No, it's not spectacular writing. Yes, we all need to be aware of giving up too much power to our government. But there are other things too.
Orwell's discussions of the proles clearly speak to not leaving them with no safety net. (Winston's youth,

I need some new science fiction to read, who has some suggestions? I don't like military sci-fi. For reference, my favorite series is the Expanse, I also enjoyed Scalzi's Collapsing Empire, I love Robert Charles Wilson's books. I mostly enjoy space operas and unique stories about technology, for example I really liked the recent book Mountain in the Sea about AI and intelligent octopus. Suggestions from the awesome Bookstodon community? @bookstodon#Bookstodon#Scifi#ScienceFiction
“You ain’t really allowed to do that,” said Albert, feeling wretched.
"THE HOGFATHER CAN. THE HOGFATHER GIVES PRESENTS. THERE’S NO BETTER PRESENT THAN A FUTURE."
Apart from Death's speech at the end of the book, probably my favourite bit from the Hogfather. It feels like a very Pratchett moment, and really shows where the heart of the Discworld series lies.
#BOTD Algernon Blackwood was a prolific author of ghost stories, even becoming a late-in-life celebrity on radio and television performing live readings. He was an enthusiast of eastern and esoteric philosophy, and many of his stories inspire awe and wonder, as well as terror. Famous works include The Wendigo and The Willows. #ghosts#wendigo#bookstodon
Eugen Rochko recently posted a thought:
"I think it comes down to, AI has no place in the arts. Machine-generated art has the appearance of what it is emulating, but no substance. Like cake made entirely of fondant. Or cardboard."
'Aiono' replied: "Also even if it could, like why would you automate one of the most entertaining part of being a human?"
