Book 18 of 2024 was this very short, yet highly original and tremendously powerful novel/(novella?) by Natasha Brown. A must read

I’ve been reading Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, or I should say re-reading it this weekend. Enjoying it!

If you have a love for reading, don’t ever let life take that away.

When a lifelong reader stops because life gets in the way, a part of how you relate to the world leaves you.

Change what you must, but this sacred time for you has to stay in your life.

People who ban books so so from a place of intense fear, deep insecurity, and sense of self-seriousness.

An interesting piece about , , and a bit on collecting . There’s some irony in owning a first edition of owned earlier by Dorothy Scarritt, Oppenheimer’s secretary at Los Alamos. And I had only a little twinge reading that one who just turned 40 might expect to read only 480 more books carefully if one manages to read one book a month.

I finished The Hands of the Emperor by Victoria Goddard. I've seen complaints that MC is a bit too perfect, and I can see why that could be said. But... holy cow was it nice to read about someone competent not making stupidly bad choices. The relationships between the characters were so enjoyable. I would have liked having many of them as friends.

Slow paced with a lot of dialogue, I'm almost surprised I enjoyed this book as much as I did. Politics and deep friendships carry it well

I sometimes thought my father thought he could't die while he still had books on his pending pile (a stab at immortality I seem to be replicating)... so, it was strangely touching to see Tom Gauld has had similar thoughts.

Fun fact

In elementary (primary) school during second grade (year 2) I checked out the book “How to run a railroad” the entire school year. I kept renewing it. The following year in third grade (year 3) I was banned from the library. My mother quickly resolved the issue and was pissed at the school for trying to ban a student for wanting to read.

Looking back I was clearly in the wrong, but I thank her anyway.

I'm reading two different books from H.P. : "A Confession of Unfaith" and "Philosophical Essays". But I found out that several essays appears in both books, which makes my reading easier. Fewer pages left to be read soon. Love it.

My weekend reading in between all the getting stuff done will be a lovely re-read of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.

Heaven knows I’ve seen every possible movie adaptation of this, since I’m a huge classic horror fan .

But it’s been decades since I’ve read the book!

I recently got a Barnes & Noble gift certificate for Mother’s Day from my son, so I bought myself some classics that I had wanted to have in my collection 📚🤎.

Let’s discuss certain unwritten rules about reading, and flipping etiquette.

  1. Put yourself in the reader’s position. Flip what they want to read.
  2. Your readers may be following several magazines, don’t inundate them with the same article. That’s spammy
  3. Flipboard is a reading and discovery experience. No one cares how old your article is.
  4. Do share last year’s 4th of July recipes, if they are good and useful I will share them
  5. I think it’s time group magazines put a few flipping policies in place.
I’ll come up with suggestions next post.
