Is this a sign of the times for the movie business and creative professions in general? The Art Directors Guild (ADG) has suspended its Production Design Initiative program, which gives people hands-on training and job placements, saying, "we cannot in good conscience encourage you to pursue our profession while so many of our members remain unemployed.” The unemployment rate for members of the ADG currently stands at 75 percent. Hey, neat! Thank you! It's an "imagination engine" - the original mod @Arotrios kbin.social wrote a detailed description here.
I never really fully got my head around it but it seems to be a combination of art, poetry, music, cinema, mythology, etc and a lot of the posts in it bounce off other posts in it.
Big Banana Feet (1976)
in cinemas across the UK from 10 May
Capturing ‘The Big Yin’ on and off stage during his 1975 tour of Ireland, Big Banana Feet is a captivating record of Billy Connolly on the cusp of international stardom.
Director Murray Grigor and cinematographer David Peat present Connolly at his beguiling best, using humour & charm to successfully navigate the political tensions of 1970s Dublin and Belfast.
Folks, this week on #Monsterdon, the weekly monster movie watch party, we've got an HG Wells classic. Yes it's JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (1977), which actually looks like a decent production. The costumes look solid and the MUTTONCHOPS definitely look period-accurate. Good god.

"Let It Be," restored by Peter Jackson and the team that worked on "The Beatles: Get Back," will be released on Disney+ tomorrow (May 8). Variety's Owen Gleiberman compares the new version to the original, which he first watched in the summer of 1970, and says it's "one of the most joyful rock documentaries ever made." What do you think of the constant repackaging of the Beatles archive?
Ooooooh! Our first 50/50 split on a poll. Exactly half of voters are all for the constant repackaging of the Beatles archive, and the rest say let it be. Here's an interview from Paste Magazine with "Let It Be" director Michael Lindsay-Hogg about the unearthing and restoration of his Oscar-winning documentary.
Cannes Film Festival, which begins on May 14, may see its first strike since 1968. Freelance festival workers from a labour group called Sous les écrans, la dèche (Broke behind the screens) want to raise awareness of the growing instability of the film industry in France. The group includes around 200 projectionists, programmers, PR representatives, and ticketing and guest relations workers, most of whom also work at other festivals across France. Here's more from Euronews.
