weirdwriter, to privacy

I know other blind people love AI but why is corporations/companies like this taking all of your private internal chats and data to be used for their LLMs a good thing? More importantly, can we go back to and now? https://slack.com/intl/en-gb/trust/data-management/privacy-principles

elduvelle,
@elduvelle@neuromatch.social avatar

@weirdwriter And why is it so hard to opt-out?
They have an option for everything else, but to opt-out of their “AI” looking at your messages and activity you have to… send an email??!

“Contact us to opt out. If you want to exclude your Customer Data from Slack global models, you can opt out. To opt out, please have your org, workspace owners or primary owner contact our Customer Experience team at feedback@slack.com with your workspace/org URL and the subject line ‘Slack global model opt-out request’. We will process your request and respond once the opt-out has been completed.”

found the rest of a discarded wallet on the street, just filled with the remaining cards the thief did not take. brought it to police station. was mistake, because it took over an hour. next time I try not to get fingerprints on it and drop it at police station mailbox.

elduvelle,
@elduvelle@neuromatch.social avatar

@kaia still, I should thank on behalf of my past self! One day (in Paris) my wallet got stolen in the underground and when I realized it I started thinking about all the paperwork I would have to do to remake my ID card and driving license etc. but a few days later I got a phone call from the police and someone had found it and it had almost everything in it! I was SO happy and relieved…
So, thank you 🙏

Have any other bra-wearers with hips/thighs wider than their shoulders ever successfully "stepped into" a bra?? Am I misunderstanding what "stepping into a bra" means??
Presumably it works for ppl with different proportions but mine aren't rare, why tf do bra manufacturers constantly tell me to try "stepping into a bra" if hooking it or pulling it over my head doesn't work?
(If your answer is "I don't wear bras (:", please note I specifically asked for input from a different demographic, ty)

elduvelle,
@elduvelle@neuromatch.social avatar

@Sharksonaplane like.. putting the bra on legs first? Why would anyone want to do that?? It’s already hard enough to put one on from the top when they can’t open.
Generally I’m convinced that people who design bras are not the ones testing the bras out.

Like most of you I've seen the stuff going around about slack. Does anyone know if this is a recent change or has it been like this for a while? And if there is a way to determine what your organization's status is with regards to opt out (if you're with a large org and aren't going to be able to ask slack yourself).

elduvelle,
@elduvelle@neuromatch.social avatar

@SRLevine what is happening with slack? 😣

elduvelle,

@SRLevine surely not if you haven’t opted to share your data with it?!? 🥺

Oh, I forgot to post it last night. Mini :

Baby crow is almost ready to venture outside the nest.

(Yes the structure of the nest is made of coat hangers. Crows have invented sustainable nests that can be reused several years in a row)

Now, there is crazy unseasonal wind today, so I hope it's hanging tight to the nest and it delays its first adventure for later.

Just a reminder that adding “young” (or “old”, for that matter) in a job ad is discriminatory. Why not write down something that the candidate can actually work on improving instead, and that has something to do with the job you’ll ask them to do?

“Are you enjoying Duo Mobile” … 🤔

How can I tell you… I enjoy it as much as having to brush my teeth after each meal or emptying the dishwasher..
do I wish I didn’t have to use it at all? YES
can I do without it at the moment? Unfortunately NO because for some reason our lives are governed by the ever-present but really, really small risk that someone might want to hack my work email..

(Duo mobile is one of these #Authenticator apps)

Whelp. Grant submitted. Probably, a modest waste of time, since the earlier edition was recommended for funding** (if funds are available). But I couldn't risk not going in this round. Finger's crossed that this one is good enough to be recommended for funding immediately with no budget cut.

Because seriously, I can't see continuing this project on the same >50K less than modular that I've had the last two grants.

Mr. Crow says "good morning" so mini #CrowUpdate :
Both Mr. and Ms. Crow have been extremely friendly this morning (I'm working from home today) they approached me closer than before (They didn't even fly away when I exited the house and they happened to be near the door.) Maybe the last remnant of fear they had about me vanished when I helped them chase the cat in the park two days ago?

Baby is still hanging out in the nest, I caught a glimpse of it.

OMG but I hate Python.

I just want to run some spike detection code I made a while ago.
Instead of spikes I get a weird error. So now I need to update package 1, which requires updating package 2, 3, 4, 7, and 28, which in turn want a newer version of python (except package 9 which refuses to work now of course), so I also need to reinstall anaconda completely (fuck knows why the upgrade button never works)...
And of course none of that actually runs, so I need to figure out how to make things go in a docker container that is in turn wrapped in whatever the hell a singularity is?

elduvelle,
@elduvelle@neuromatch.social avatar

@jonny @susanleemburg are containers the same as virtual environments in this context?
@susanleemburg I feel you. I’ve been adapting some spikeinterface code and it’s been a real hassle. I call it “the Linux spirit” 😅 (and I used to be a Python defender but once you get used to how easy Matlab is and how it (mostly) “just works” it’s hard to go back.)

Sometimes I regret staying up until 2am, but not tonight. Saw the northern lights visible by eye in London. Never thought that would be possible. Didn't quite look as good by eye as this 6s exposure, but was still amazing. Fun atmosphere on parliament hill too.

The idea of a Credit Card is the perfect example of how much the US loves adding completely unnecessary steps to a process.

Debit card: pay a bill by transferring money from your bank account to the person’s account - 1 step

Credit card: pay a bill by using credit from a company, waiting from them to actually transfer the money, transferring money from your bank account, waiting for that to actually proceed otherwise you have no more “credit” in your credit card - 4 steps.
Also, never go below your available credit otherwise you’ll have to pay horrible interest!

Other examples: American taxes, American healthcare, American pension, American voting system,…

UX peeve. Lamps that you have to tap repeatedly to adjust brightness so that if you want it to get less bright you have to cycle through more bright first. Bring back clunky analogue switches. Touch interface is bad for everything except a phone.

still asking $60 for 1 year of 6Gb… 😭 @zotero I love you all but it’s 2024 now, maybe you could either reduce the price or increase what we get for it?

Yeah having 60Gb of pdfs would be a lot, although very possible to reach eventually!

Didn’t know that about their dev doc.. I hope they fix it eventually! It’s already a pretty cool program but I imagine it could be a lot better!
