Hello all! I read a piece indicating there's an audience for political rants, and I do have a distinct take on that stuff. In my first post, I talk about the way the spook agencies shape the narrative by controlling the entertainment. Richard Pryor and Bill Hicks got induced cancer, Eddie Murphy had to stop being smart in public, and Bill Cosby got a voice because he validated white racism.
Another evening, another mammoth reading session. I actually went ahead and purchased Bookly subscription. We'll see if it was worth it. If not, I'm happy to support the dev.
Not quite 25% tonight, but pretty close. At this rate, I'll finish the book tomorrow!
On my lunch today I began a new settlement in Manor Lords. I could think of no better inspiration for the village name (and lord o' the manor) than Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld, which was suggested during our stream.
Llamedos is growing nicely. Even if it does seem to rain near incessantly
Ok, inspired by @rincewind.run and @ursulav over on bsky (I don't know Micah's handle here?), here are 10 US Kindle copies of Terry Pratchett's REAPER MAN. Which I have, and have read, and love. As always with pterry, I'm going to babble a bit, because the world is so much worse for his loss.
pterry was a genius. He understood humanity, deeply and thoroughly. And he could convey that in writing. That's double-genius, or at least 1.5.
Isn't it funny, I don't remember being impatient to get home to watch TV when binging series. But now that I'm reading more, the last couple of hours at work I just wanted to get home and read the next book in my Discworld binge.
Discworld fans know the irregular clock in Lord Vetinari's waiting room.
I just found out that there are building instructions out there how to build such a clock yourself - the source code is here https://github.com/akafugu/vetinari_clock
But it made me think: why don't we have a kernel patch that does this? Anyway I'm now reading up on the /dev/rtc class, NTP and PTP, wondering what would be funnier to do.
In our mid-disc break it's very likely that we're going to head into #Discworld II for our Retro Sunday night streams. But is there something in here you'd like us to move on to after?
All in all, #Discworld is probably my favourite "thing". My Mastermind specialist subject.
But the video games. Oh the video games. Incredible casting. Wonderful humour. Insane object puzzles / clever lateral thinking exercises. And Rincewind.

The Death of Rats looked up from the feast of the potato.
‘SQUEAK’ he said.
Death waved a hand dismissively. ‘WELL, YES, OBVIOUSLY ME’ he said. ‘I JUST WONDERED IF THERE WAS ANYONE ELSE’” #Discworld#Netanyahu#Rafah#WarCriminal#StopGenocideInGaza

Finished The Colour of Magic and swiftly moving on to book 2: The Light Fantastic.
This is one the quickest I've read any book (the last time being, I believe, the same book). I'm not usually a big reader, or a quick one, but these books seem to be just right for me.
It's coming together nicely. Some great performances. We're at the point now where I have a rehearsal just about every night until opening, despite all my other commitments, so please come and reward my perseverance!

Been re-reading The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett and it's such a good book, and so well written! I feel like I'm watching it as I read, the mark of a truly great author.
I'd love to see a film/show of it! Who would you pick as Rincewind? My mind went to a young Eric Idle, but maybe David Tennant would be a good substitute.
