During my textile upcycling showcase, I unveiled these four creations, worn by life drawing models and a renowned flamenco artist. Super stoked to have them come alive in their capable hands. Which one is your fav?

A model wearing an asymmetrical coat and floor length wrap skirt. Both are made out of sewing remnants stitched as ruffles on base fabrics, which are then assembled together temporarily.
A model wearing a 2-piece outfit of diaphanous long sleeeve top and petticoat, made out of embroidered tulle remnants and cotton lining. She’s in the middle of spinning so the petticoat flares out in motion.
A flamenco artist trying out dancing with a goudet-shaped trapeze overdress made out of teal embellished polyester organza. She wears a matching dark green flamenco skirt underneath.

We had one of those printers that just printed fine for years before it broke down. We replaced it with a Canon printer that feels like one of those first ink-jet printers. It works roughly 10% of the time and it is such a pain in the ass. How can this printer problem still be a thing in 2023?

As an individual, gender can be a blast. But as a society, gender has no purpose at all, other than to restrict and oppress in one fashion or another. I am misgendered every time I go out in public where people do not know me. I don't care at all, because THEY DONT KNOW ME AND DONT NEED TO KNOW MY GENDER. But they have to guess to address me, and then I have to make them feel better when they get it wrong, then realize when I speak that I am not "male". Meanwhile...

@zleap I suppose a lot of people do, but plenty are in the habit of saying Sir or Ma'am, or maybe I am being referred to 3rd person as he or him or that man. If someone is trying to get my attention and doesn't know my name, it is always something gendered. Here gender could be useful as half the people would know it is not them. But not really because I also think it is not me, and might not get out of the way, or stop or whatever. Unless someone's gender involves me, it is none of my concern.

@zleap Here's a story, though: I was on the Paris metro, and a gorgeous African Frenchman stared at me for 8-10 stops. I was 26 and beautiful, but I am tall,I don't wear makeup, or earrings, and had on a German, wool, man's hat and a turtleneck sweater under my jacket. He finally said "I have to ask, are you a man or a woman?" It was my stop, so I answered, How can it matter? and got off the train. 1/2

This is awesome! Full text search has come to Mastodon, and it's being rolled out in a responsible way.

I know full text search is a hot-button issue. For journalists, researchers and many others, FTS is essential. Plenty of others have good reason to keep their content unsearchable.

If you're in the latter category, you don't need to take any action. Your toots will remain unsearchable just as they were before.

For the rest, please manually change the default so your toots will be searchable. This will address a major shortcoming that has kept a huge number of fedi holdouts from joining.

To do that, go to Preferences > Public Profile and select the Privacy and Reach tab. Then check the Include public posts in search results.
