In some respects, these modern MAGA muttonheads are a direct result of some liberal orthodoxies. We made “do your own thing” a prime directive for 2.5 generations. So their grandparents did. And their parents did. And now they do. And here we are.

Question the establishment is now question and mock expertise.
Free speech is now freedom of hate speech and misinformation.
Freedom of protest is now violent demonstrations and insurrection.
Etc, etc, etc.

  1. I hear that Chevy is considering restarting the Camaro brand as an electric SUV.
    I have no problem with the next Camaro being an all electric vehicle but make it a performance EV coup not a glorified station wagon. No it's not going to sell like an SUV but you have other SUVs in your line for that. Why not embrace hot rodding again with new technologies? Make a performance coup with modular upgradable components. #Emaro

  1. Chevy and other manufacturers should embrace the right to repair as a profit center as they once did in years past. They should produce crate electric drive trains, encourage modular design and upgradability. They should encourage the communities that have sprung up around hot rodding to embrace an electric future. Don't just produce another SUV, make memorable works of industrial art again. #Emaro

  1. At this moment there is a small community of electric hot rodders but they're forced to scrounge for wrecked Tesla drive trains as their only options. Car manufacturers need to take the blinders off and step into this market void. Embrace a community that has given you so much in the past. #Emaro

I honestly don't understand the anti vax movement. My cynical mind is thinking some group must have something to gain from convincing people to harm themselves and others, but I can't find any logical upside for anyone.

Is it simply to watch the world burn? Is it to discredit medical expertise in general? Or is it some stubborn misplaced sense of independence? Surely it can't simply be to thumb their noses at the "Woke"?

@dabertime Vaccinating is the good old days. In my memory our parents never questioned vaccination programs. I'm guessing because they could actually remember when virulent disease destroyed friends and loved ones.

Y'all I just made myself feel so old, hubs looked up top 100 music from 2001, 2011, 2021, and today and the amount of music I could recognize decreased by significantly. I recognized probably 70% of 2001 and decreasing as I went on. BUT I blame the internet, I can listen to exactly the kind of music I want with no dependence on the radio, but also I'm old!

The best thing that could ever happen to Mastodon is if someone, someday builds a great instance coupled with a great client and hardly anyone cares that it's built on Mastodon.
If that where to happen it would be the moment that Mastodon fulfills its true potential.

The problem with Mastodon is that it's software not a service. That's where all the confusion starts.
@Gargron shouldve called the flagship instance something completely different. [insert platform name here] built on Mastodon. But of course hindsight is 20/20 and no one could've predicted the great migration. Perhaps people would've joined a Mastodon site as they previously browsed web sites? #mastodon #fediverse

@shoq I've never been as enamored with Masnick as most of the rest of the world is. Quite frankly I think hes overly obsessed with Bluesky and AT, precisely because he sat in on those early meetings and drank the cool aid. AT has some great ideas around timeline management but it doesn't feel right. It just doesn't feel like a builders protocol to me. Time will tell.

Anyway, sometimes my brain creates really sad scenarios, and I play out my reactions to these scenarios, and it makes me really upset, but it's like I'm trying to prepare myself for every possibility even though it's both impossible and destructive.

@RickiTarr I do that as well. I've learned something though that helps with that and other anxieties that I create for myself.

I've learned if it's not a problem right now, don't make it a problem. In other words learn to live in the moment, not in an anxiety spiral of what might be.
