Sorted out the . Drip tape leaks fixed. A few weeds pulled. Ground cloths adjusted to cover a few bare patches. About 10 tomato plants from a neighbor put in. Mine need a few more days to grow inside under the lights.

Opened a corner of the tarp and turned that and put in 10 potato plants.

Some tomatillo and eggplant still germinating or sprouted under the lights.

Ate a few asparagus a while ago. Year 2 for them so I will leave them to get stronger.

I have about 1kg of mammoth sunflower seeds saved from last year. I want to plant a wall of them, but I have to figure out how to protect them from vermin until they reach 2ft and toughen up.

@MichaelPorter a municipality can ask for a VOR...an official Transport Canada restriction on vessels. Not sure if that's what they are doing in Quebec. They also sometimes set the ramp fees as $1500 but free for cottage members...I don't like that...lakes are for everyone.

It’s child abuse not to vaccinate your children and yourself against deadly diseases.

A lot of fish died shortly after water change. Something's wrong with my well water. Not sure what I want to do now. But it really sucks the joy out of things.

johnefrancis,
@johnefrancis@mastodon.social avatar

@Beiz ☹️ sorry about your fish. I'm also on a well and bought a small RO system and many problems went away for the aquarium and houseplants too. I add minerals and alkalinity to the RO water.

Not many things like water that's been through the softener. My unsoftened well water has a lot of iron and makes algae go crazy.

johnefrancis,
@johnefrancis@mastodon.social avatar

@Beiz mine comes out slightly acidic after an air-injection iron-sulphur filter. I use some GH and KH additions to the RO and it keeps everything happy, snails can grow shells and eat slime.

2% inflation in Canada is pretty damn good when Argentina is at %289

#CdnPoli

johnefrancis,
@johnefrancis@mastodon.social avatar

@MikeImBack never take out a lot of loans in a currency you can't print.

To me, it's a great example of decades of political can-kicking.

"I can't deal with this balance-of-payments and fundamental economic crisis now! I have an election to win! I'll just roll over debt and borrow more USD until...."

johnefrancis,
@johnefrancis@mastodon.social avatar

@MikeImBack Canada doesn't take out significant loans in foreign currency.

When I read about the Argentine economy...I'm still confused how they entered the trap. They should've just defaulted on that debt decades ago and moved on. Tell the IMF to fuck off, default and nobody will remember in 2 years. That's what other countries do.

In the 60s...the US was still pretending they were on the gold standard. Part of that unravelling was Canada floating CAD vs USD...

PP going on an anti public service rant this morning, among other lies, claiming that the public service doesn't do anything more than it did in 2015.

Canada's population has grown by 15%.

Core inflation over that period is 28%.

The feds now run public dental, daycare, and pharmacare programs.

They built a $40B pipeline for Alberta.

They spent 3 years bailing out conservative commercial landlords during the pandemic.

Every dollar spent went into the private sector.

johnefrancis,
@johnefrancis@mastodon.social avatar

@npilon I think he's a kleptocrat, not a secessionist. Wants what to secede from what? Citizens from government? All the provinces from the federation? AB to USA?

johnefrancis,
@johnefrancis@mastodon.social avatar

@npilon I don't think secession is too popular in the west, it makes their tar export goals worse. They already want tons of immigrants for cheap tar extraction labour. They already do tons of dumb hateful stuff and the feds let them. AB has a great ally in QC francofascists.

AB separation is a talking point to help sell national kleptocracy.
