I am talking o a reporter about this in a couple hours: https://regina.ctvnews.ca/from-outer-space-sask-farmers-baffled-after-discovering-strange-wreckage-in-field-1.6880353

This is about an hour away from my farm, so this'll be a fun conversation, and yet another great opportunity to tell a lot of people about what a huge problem we have with unregulated commercialization of orbit. (Also I just redid my slides for my public talk next week, this is going in!)

@sundogplanets I think a plaque with this toot on it would be OK.

WTL, to cycling
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

Wednesday:
102 seconds of plank
23.3 KM of #Cycling (24°C, Humidex of 30°C)
11 minutes of yoga for runners
30 minutes of HIIT
20 minutes of strength training

Another day of doing the outside portion of my workout first to try and avoid the heat.

Getting home hot and sweaty then having to workout more is not very appealing. 🤔

Need to start building an underground city covered in parkland. Anyone have a spare billion sitting around?

@WTL I like "Plank" and "Plank's Revenge". But if you're planning to keep this up for years, it might be better to use numbers like Friday the 13th did.

johnefrancis,
@johnefrancis@mastodon.social avatar

@WTL if I use the search term

from:@WTL "seconds of plank"

I get all the toots and then I just need to parse out the seconds and add them up to see if there's been enough "Plank: The Movie". I figure about 4500s, or 75 minutes, would be enough.

GFS is still toying with the idea of a disturbance forming over the Caribbean/Gulf in mid-June. Forming right in the area of the very hot loop current. This run smashes it into LA and has it immediately shredded.

At 250h out, forecast is still radically shifting it around in time & space, but it will be interesting to see if it sticks around and maybe turns out like subtropical storm Alberto from May 2018.

Every Conservative MP in #Canada voted against pharmacare that would provide life sustaining insulin for diabetics and birth control for women. Despite their mysogynist and ablist efforts, the legislation passed and will continue to the senate.

Check your MPs vote here.

The 06z GFS thinks that we should have an attempted tropical-esque storm thing off FLA next Wed.

The Euro disagrees.

So much hot water in the Gulf and so early, I'm surprised nothing has managed to get going in there yet.

We have been shopping nearly entirely at small grocery stores in May and it works great except getting my preferred milk alternative (Silk sweetened soy) is a total pain in the ass because there are too many milk alternatives and small stores have to pick and choose what to carry due to small shelf space.

johnefrancis,
@johnefrancis@mastodon.social avatar

@casseagull all the milk products would have been pasteurized at some point, they're all "cooked" to at least 72C...

But after 75C or during other processes, things get...hmm..protein complicated.

johnefrancis,
@johnefrancis@mastodon.social avatar

@casseagull all you need is a nanoscale advanced biochemistry plant on your countertop that can forward/reverse all these protein reactions to transform the locally processed milk into what agrees with your digestive and immune profile. It will only be as costly and complicated as 90,000 nice espresso machines.

Breaking up the day with a bit of a hike and lunch outdoors.

A bowl of ramen I think today. A bit windy, but a good test of the spirit stove.

@ottaross my cat rarely sleeps thru lunch...begging from an unoccupied dining room chair is important. We could be having tuna or chicken or hummus.

Saw "Fall Guy" last night.

Barrhaven cinema deserted on a Monday night

Fun movie. Light. Fun characters.

And gratuitous stunts from start to finish! Fights! Fire! Falls! Cars! Boats! Aircraft!

No horse stunts though. It's not the specialization it once was, but rodeo is still going strong...so?

Bit of a "Tropic Thunder" vibe. Bit of a "Barry" vibe.

$7.86 each for 900k victims?

Something is seriously messed up here.

These class actions get approved with not much opportunity to opt-out of the class. In my case, by the time I heard of it, the period to opt out of this bad settlement had already expired.

The courts let LifeLabs railroad thru a bad settlement by playing both sides of the case and proposing a capped settlement.

I grew seedlings this year in a makeshift grow station in our basement, which is just one of those heavy duty plastic utility shelves and LED grow lights and I am so pleased with how (some of, at least) my plants turned out.

I started the seeds in takeout containers with lids to keep the moisture in, then opened them once they sprouted. I then graduated the larger seedlings to paper pots I made so they could grow even larger and now I am working on hardening them off over the next two weeks.

Trays of small seedlings growing in folded paper pots under a the glow of a grow light.
Sizeable seedlings on an outdoor deck - visible are tomato, cucumber and zucchini plants.

johnefrancis,

@Auxonic @casseagull the thumbnail of this looks like a very spooky staircase to an outdoor cellar of horrors.

johnefrancis,
@johnefrancis@mastodon.social avatar

@Auxonic @casseagull 12 years of garden evolution. The rolls of rabbit wire are new this year. I hope to set it up so that the rabbit wire is grounded with a couple wires of 6000V just outside to discourage any visits. Last year, learned the stones are insulators making the electric fence pretty useless and all my beans, letti, sunflowers, cabbage family got munched.

johnefrancis,
@johnefrancis@mastodon.social avatar

@Auxonic @casseagull today I put out tomatoes, herbs, cucumbers, watermelon. Rabbits and squirrels don't usually bother these, so I haven't put up the new steel fencing yet.

Sasha put out marigold seeds in bare soil pots, and the squirrels (or robins?) dig it all up before they can sprout, so we covered them with floating row cover material.

Another completely preventable loss of someone's life at one of Barrhaven's busiest intersections.

Within a 3 block radius here 10,000 students attend 3 high schools and 6ish elementary schools. Daycare, school, old folks home on 3 corners.

To the south, giant shopping plaza.

East-West speed limit is 70 kmh.

Intersection is unprotected for cyclists and pedestrians, traditional unsafe design with long, fast turning lanes.

Visited Mechanicsville sector of #Ottawa today. 3rd. Maker Shop. Merry Dairy.

The locals were uncouth, but friendly and spoke a mostly intelligible creole of divine Nepeanean mixed with the Downtowner pidgin and bike bell dings.

Saw a garbage truck drive right over one of the many traffic calming boards. We have only like 3 in all of Barrhaven and they have 5000 in a 1 block radius of the hospital.

Overall, a lot nicer than Cumberland, where I have to go on the weekend.
