It's hard to compete with any #caturday ever, but tonight may be my favorite night ever on the internet, and I was on it in the eighties. Just flaming then, but this flaming sky and all the sharing of experience is warming my heart. #aurora

You cannot own a house or other building and care for it and maintain it without the work of immigrants, even if you never directly hire one yourself. I live in the dead center of the country, no where near a border, and it is true entirely here and everywhere.

As an individual, gender can be a blast. But as a society, gender has no purpose at all, other than to restrict and oppress in one fashion or another. I am misgendered every time I go out in public where people do not know me. I don't care at all, because THEY DONT KNOW ME AND DONT NEED TO KNOW MY GENDER. But they have to guess to address me, and then I have to make them feel better when they get it wrong, then realize when I speak that I am not "male". Meanwhile...

LOL]

I remember when I worked at a school as I lunch time assistant, the kids used to say Miss to me, so my colleague suggested I responded by saying 'not the last time I looked'

Not sure if that would work in 2023, but humor can defuse a situation at times.

But yes, why does gender matter in a lot of professions, you hire the person with the best expertise , experience etc for the job, and it should not be about ticking boxes.

Hypothesis: An ethical and compassionate choice of action or policy, as opposed to a more severe or punitive or hate-driven course of action or policy, leads to better outcomes at less financial and other cost to individuals and society/community.

Seeking real examples to the contrary.

@markusl lol. Nothing comes at greater cost to society than an army. Nothing is more punitive and pricey than initiating war. In the context of society as such, and how to govern it, I think it holds. Unfortunately the choices made by leaders are commonly punitive and pricey. I think there are awful reasons for that, rooted in the psychological delight some people take in punishing others and feeling superior.
