Interviewer: "When you built 500 km of tunnels in Gaza, why didn't you build shelters for civilians from the attacks?"
Hamas official Abu Marzouk: "The tunnels are for us (the people of Hamas ). The citizens in the Gaza Strip are under the responsibility of the United Nations." #AureFreePress#News#Israel#gaza#Hamas
Did you know that only 2-3 moths ago a wave of protests rocked streets of towns in #Gazaagainst#Hamas rule? The article mentions a number of interesting nuances of the political situation in Gaza, with the region being not uniformly populated and with significant divided in support for Hamas. It also mentions incidents of bulldozing houses... no, not by Israeli army, but by local Palestinian authorities, which triggered the summer protests.
We should probably connect the Israeli government's decision to leap from the moral high ground into a pool of blood with the fact that it's a coalition of right-wing extremists and even-more-extreme right-wing extremists.
And of course #Hamas are authoritarian right-wing Islamic fundamentalists.
People on the right are more sensitive to in-group/ out-group differences, tend to have a Manichean bent and are more likely to use violence against those they see as the other.
No one seems to mention that Turkey has been the chief enabler of ISIS and the rest of the barbaric lot since 2013. And it has been working with in Syria & elsewhere. Thousands of senior ISIS rapists still live in Turkey itself with their abducted women.
Turkish President #RTErdogan hosted #Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in his palace in Ankara on July 26, 2023.
Many Hamas operatives are sheltered in Turkey. They raise funding with the government support and have invested in lucrative deals in multiple industries.
"An overwhelming majority of Israelis blame their government and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for Hamas’s invasion last week, according to a new poll.
A recent survey by the Dialog Center found that out of 620 Israeli Jews polled, 86 percent felt that the surprise attack from Gaza was the fault of Israel’s government."
U.S. has brokered a deal between #Israel and #Hamas to free dozens of hostages held in Gaza in exchange for a 4 or 5 day pause in fighting, according to two current U.S. officials and a former U.S. official with knowledge of the talks.
American warship and multiple commercial ships came under attack Sunday in the Red Sea, the Pentagon said, potentially marking a major escalation in a series of maritime attacks in the Mideast linked to the #Israel-#Hamas war.
This is Yaniv Sarudi.
Eyewitness account: Yaniv picked up 9 fleeing and wounded people in his regular car along the way as they were being attacked by terrorists in southern Israel. He drove them to an IDF base, but that base was under Hamas control. He kept driving under constant fire and waited with the injured 2 more hours till IDF special forces arrived. He died from his injuries but saved 8 lives. #AureFreePress#News#Israel#gaza#Hamas
One of the most disturbing things I'm seeing on the Fediverse, alongside (and in some ways worse) than the blatant antisemitism are when antisemites parade out a Jew to further their agenda.
"See, this Jew said what I think, so I CAN'T BE ANTISEMITIC!"
Perhaps they don't realize (or don't care to realize) that doing this is in itself an act of tokenization and using Jews as pawns.
You will always find a minority of people who are the dissenters in their community. When the suffragette movement existed, fighting for women's right to vote, there were some anti-suffragette women, but their numbers and their opinions did not reflect the greater reality, and I think that anyone reasonable would look at a blog post that says "See, women don't want voting rights!" based on an anti-suffragette demonstration and know that it's not only nonsense, but actively harmful.
The same is true here. Stop tokenizing Jews in upholding your biases.
Israel will take “overall security responsibility” in Gaza indefinitely after its war with Hamas, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, the clearest indication yet that Israel plans to maintain control over the coastal enclave one month into a conflict.
This is lending support to genocide. The Israeli state is not trying to fight a war, it’s trying to eliminate the Palestinian civilians, who have nowhere to go.
"State Department staff wrote that high-level officials do not want press materials to include three specific phrases: 'de-escalation/ceasefire,' 'end to violence/bloodshed' and 'restoring calm.'”
🇷🇺 🇮🇱 Local residents in Makhachkala in the Russian Republic of Dagestan stormed an airport in the city in an attempt to attack any Jews who arrived on a flight from Tel Aviv on Sunday, according to reports from Russian media.
👉🏼👉🏼“#Israel has agreed to release 700-800 Palestinian prisoners as part of #ceasefire & hostage release deal..
The terrorists agreed upon for release by Israel incl 100s who are serving life sentences for murdering Israelis in terror attacks..In return, 40 hostages will be released by #Hamas”
The International Criminal Court (ICC) is seeking an arrest warrant for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu on charges of war crimes.
The ICC has also said it is seeking a warrant for the arrest of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar as well as Israel’s defence minister Yoav Gallant and two other key Hamas figures – Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri and Hamas’ political leader Ismail Haniyeh.
