#Politicians have a skewed understanding of the effects of #offshorewind installations because the more positive studies are often behind paywalls & under-appreciated while the 'grey literature' which is more widely available is also often more negative.
This interesting research into the availability of research & how this effects conclusions about policy direction, has much wider implications for #governance than just the #green energy sector.
“#NathanSchneider has the patience and fortitude most of us lack. He’s identified a phenomenon he calls “#ImplicitFeudalism’ - the bias to build our online and real #communities as #fiefdoms, and how this has made us more tolerant of similarly autocratic CEOs and politicians. He’s even optimistic and energetic enough to see how the blockchain could be employed to distribute #governance in a more democratic fashion.”
The #Biden Administration Has Taken More #ClimateAction Than Any Other in History
The #UnitedStates has accomplished more on #ClimateChange under the #BidenHarris admin than during any other presidential admin—& there’s still more to come.
Yay, I managed to use "enableable" and "unique selling point" in an official Python Steering Council acceptance, and it survived all rounds of edits by other SC members :P

Oregon bill would decriminalize homeless encampments and propose penalties if unhoused people are harassed or ordered to leave | This makes me very happy, as it puts the onus of dealing with the #unhoused population exactly where it should be - on society in general and local municipalities specifically. If you don’t want the #homeless in your downtown, provide them a safe space elsewhere. It’s our responsibility as a society to care for our homeless citizens, it is society that has failed them in most cases. So instead of NIMBY vigilantes at all levels punting the population from one place or another, it’s long past time to deal with the crisis head on and provide the space for their tents, tiny houses and warming centers during harsh winters, cooling centers during blazing summers, and access to service at all times. Proud of my state: #oregon and proud of our Governor, Tina Kotek, who with her first lady constitute our first same sex first couple. #LGBTQIA#LGBTQ#Governancehttps://www.cnn.com/2023/04/28/us/oregon-homeless-camp-bill/index.html
“Our people don't want trinkets and window dressing and tokens. We want owner equity…”
Candidate for AFN national chief David Pratt believes the chiefs’ voices have been lost in the organization.
He says the primary focus of AFN needs to go back to issues of self-determination, sovereignty, treaty implementation and the land questions First Nations are dealing with from coast to coast.
I'm at a Decentralized Social Media Workshop at Princeton. I'm happy to report the first thing being discussed is #governance and how to practice democratic decision-making. It's something I'm hoping we can talk about at #AOIR2024
"Australia’s abysmal rates of extinctions and land clearing since European colonisation are infamous globally. Our national environmental legislation has largely failed to protect biodiversity, including many threatened plants, animals and ecological communities. But change is afoot."
"Habitat means homes for wildlife
Protection of sufficient and connected habitat must be central to Australia’s national environmental law. If homes for swift parrots, koalas, greater gliders and other threatened species continue to be destroyed and fragmented, it is all but guaranteed Australia will fail in its stated quest to avoid further extinctions."
"The new laws must state policy objectives such as no new extinctions and no actions that accelerate climate change."
"A Voice for Country and culture
Our national environment laws must make room for genuine Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders participation in how matters of cultural and environmental significance are managed."
Civil Disobedience in a Climate and Biodiversity Crisis
"Ultimately, peaceful political protest should be addressed by politicians. The current government has decided, by making disruption of ‘everyday life’ a criminal act, that it is a matter not of politics but for the police and criminal law. This will have serious implications for society, and for freedom of speech, whether or not you believe it is the right approach."
Several African countries are pursuing digital transformation ambitions. But concerns exist over the absence of appropriate policies across the continent to create a resilient and secure cyber environment.
Hot take: We are hearing so much discussion about #foss, #opensource, and #governance lately because the old models of governance are no longer serving the current state of open technology.
This introspection and analysis is not purely an attempt to catalogue, but to bring to light hidden and inferred structures to determine what changes are needed now and next.
It's a sign of current and imminent change in a legacy system, not a merely a sign of changing of the proverbial guard(ian's).
