Hyperincarceration

"First Nations people in Australia are the most imprisoned people in the world."

"Hyperincarceration of First Peoples is a common feature of former British settler colonies such as Canada, the United States and New Zealand. This shared experience shows us First Peoples are not the problem. We should instead be paying attention to the colonial motivation for incarcerating First Peoples."

@publicvoit I believe that making Windows a #Linux distro is going to happen within the next 5-10 years, probably as a concurrent OS branch first, like #NT was in parallel to the #DOS based #Windows of the time.

The economical incentives to not have to make their own OS and the compatibility benefits with the whole Unix/Linux ecosystem that currently drive Microsoft to maintain #WSL will eventually become too seductive for them not to do it.

@actuallyautistic

Since my diagnosis, I have realized the main reason I never considered that I was autistic is because every depiction of autism I ever saw was so far from my own experience. But if anyone wants to understand it better, seek out books written by autistic people instead of those discussing it from the outside.

@unabogie @actuallyautistic I suffered another of those people who dismiss us with “all on the spectrum” crap yesterday. I tried to explain there is no spectrum. To help her understand I asked her to imagine a giant bell. The dome of the bell is all the majority.— the further from the centre the less “typical”. The rim of the bell is the population, those most. But as you go round the rim they aren’t all degrees of divergence, they’re all different in different ways.

The Beetaloo gas field is a climate bomb
How did CSIRO modelling make it look otherwise?

"If it is allowed to proceed, this single project could undo all of our efforts to cut emissions. Beetaloo and Middle Arm are a climate bomb. They will produce vast volumes of emissions which cannot be offset. The atmosphere doesn’t respond to clever accounting, overly optimistic projections and reliance on offsets – only on how many tonnes of emissions end up there."

"The International Energy Agency has shown we have to slash demand for fossil fuels 25% by 2030 and 80% by 2050 to keep heating under 1.5°C and limit the worst effects of climate change." >

Very frustrated with #Python ElementTree having .text and .tail instead of having text be a special node type.

lukeshu, (edited )
@lukeshu@fosstodon.org avatar

@veronica That was pseudo-code showing the object structure (you can't can't set text, tail, or items as kwargs to the constructor).

I understand how etree works, but am upset that how it works is different than how #XML works.

XML's grammar defines (https://www.w3.org/TR/xml/#NT-content) the text to belong to belong to the "content" member of the parent element.

Compare with the DOM implemented by web browsers. "foo" and "bar" are both Text Nodes rather than being attributes on an Element Node.

Whatever is closest to the top in the freezer. Have run out of f@@ks tonight after a massive day at work. Will have some greens tomorrow, I promise. Also, a swear word for the new millenium - S#dn#y Acc##nt#nts! If you delivered stuff half an hour before they ordered it, they’d still complain you were late and their client is angry. Then turn around and demand a discount so deep we’d be paying them. I need chocolate and in a hurry.

@adamhill well, #WindowsCE was superseded by #WindowsEmbedded (Which is based on the same #NT Kernel and Tools as the #Desktop Versions), #Windows #Enterprise #LTSC Edition and #Windows10IoT...

Needless to say #WindowsMobile.died for good, and I hope #WindowsServer, #Windows10, #Windows11 and #MicrosoftOffice will die out sooner than later and be replaced by good #Linix distros lile @ubuntu / #UbuntuLTS / #Ubuntu...

Here's the latest variant picture for the Northern Territory, Australia.

After a gap of over a year, a couple of samples were recently shared from the NT.

The 2 samples are variants that are common elsewhere in Australia - XBB.1.16.* "Arcturus" and XBB.1.5.* "Kraken".

I've been banging on about this for over a year now, so it's great to see data sharing restart. Hopefully that can continue so we get a more accurate picture of the unique mix in this remote area with international air and sea ports.
