Donald Trump has been hit with a massive one-two punch in his bank fraud case.

He owes $372 million for lying—and he can't borrow money from any New York bank, frustrating his ability to appeal the judgment.

The thing Trump did in Dayton – celebrating his fascist movement's dubious "martyrs"–is exactly what Goebbels & Hitler did bw Nazis' failed coup & their seizure of power. Their song was called the Horst Wessel Song.

Nazis were obsessive abt being the victims. Once in power they put up monuments to their "martyrs." They sang their Horst Wessel Song as they conquered countries & killed millions to say that they, Nazis, were real victims and therefore always innocent.

There was this question after WW-2 about what was wrong with the Germans that they supported and obeyed such an obvious monster. American's, they said, were not like that. Americans would never go along with evil orders, they said. Too individualistic, too principled., too brave

Then Milgram did his thing, and we just swept that under a big rug, bc it was embarrassing as fuck

And here we are facing the same monster, and there's the obedience and support bubbling up among us

I feel a visceral sense of nausea that right at this moment, we have people who are thinking really deeply about the quantum mechanical effects of colliding neutron stars, and what this tells us about the universe, but at the same time we have people who are elevated in society that don't even accept that vaccines are safe and effective, that we evolved form a common ancestor as the other apes, and that books should not be banned simply because they offer a different world view.

still masking 😷 at the grocery store?

true, your personal risk is relatively low.

but did you think of the staff who have to breathe every single patron’s air for the entire holiday season? they deserve clean and healthy air, and wearing a mask for 10 min in the store is not hard.

Covid still kills and I still believe we’re obligated to protect essential workers 🤷🏻

mloxton,
@mloxton@med-mastodon.com avatar

@seachanger
Yes, I still mask up with an N95 at the grocery store, because

  1. The risk is still not low enough not to mask up
  2. It reminds those on the fence that there is still an active pandemic
  3. It gives cover for those who want to, but feel isolated
  4. It protects vulnerable populations
  5. It protects the shop workers whose exposure is higher

There was a real jaw-dropper moment when Musk personally intervened in an attack on Russian ships. That was the first anyone I know could recall that a civilian equipment vendor intentionally blocked an operational activity and threw the operation to an enemy.

That got a lot of people thinking

Via Angry Staffer:

just won New Hampshire via write in.

Biden beat Dean Phillips by a much larger margin than Trump beat Haley, and he wasn’t even on the ballot.

But sure, there’s no enthusiasm there. 🙄

CNN's Abby Phillip: "As Nikki Haley put it -- I think it's actually such a smart way to put it -- maybe the first party to let go of their 80 years old might be the victor, but who's gonna be the one to move first? ... nobody wants Trump, nobody wants Biden."

mloxton,
@mloxton@med-mastodon.com avatar

@GottaLaff
The "nobody wants Trump, nobody wants Biden" trope is such bothsiderism bullshit.

Some people (notably Republicans, and Russian and Iranian psyops assets) DESPERATELY want Biden to be as unpopular as Trump, and are ginning up everything they can to make it come true.

The write-in campaign suggests that Biden is nowhere near as unpopular on the Left as Trump is everywhere.

You swallowed another wolf because the first one was lonely and howled a lot
I don't know why you swallowed the fly

Now you have two wolves rummaging around inside your junk, and they are chewing and peeing on everything, running about like maniacs, and now one is digging a trench

Someone nodding off in a courtroom might do so for a wide range of reasons, including obvious and common things like insomnia.
You cannot fit this to dementia without an actual encounter with a medical professional with the appropriate specialization.

Whenever you see Biden described as being as unpopular or as flawed as Trump, or described as "GenocideJoe" etc. consider that the person saying so is very likely either a Republican, Russian, or Iranian disinformation actor, or is simply repeating one of those.

There are indeed people on the Left who really feel that Biden continuing with the past commitment to Israel amounts to having a direct hand in genocide in Palestine, but they now rub shoulders with disinformation agents.
