Aren't long gloves the best and most elegant #fashion accessory ever invented?

Do you have a pair or two?

So you wear them sometimes?

8 years later, haunted by rhetoric about candidates, crimes

By the reasoning Donald Trump pushed in 2016, his candidacy creates “an unprecedented constitutional crisis,” and he has “no right to be running.” https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/8-years-later-trump-haunted-rhetoric-candidates-crimes-rcna155138

Reminds us all that fascists are transactional, have no real moral core, and don't care one whit about contradicting themselves

To carry on the tradition, let me add that NO ONE has on a mask in this eye doctor waiting room.

@StillIRise1963
When I go to Costco etc., I am typically the only one in ~300 people wearing a mask, but thankfully, most people at the eye doctor still mask.

Looking at the morbidity & mortality stats, why is it not 100%?

Vancouver comics festival bans Jewish artist Miriam Libicki over past IDF service By Andrew Lapin May 30, 2024

"...In her own statement, Libicki, who explores Jewish identity in her work, called the ban “illegal” and said it was “bad for all artists of all political orientations and backgrounds.” She added, “I have consistently, publicly been pro-peace” and supportive of the establishment of a Palestinian state.

“Because of the vulnerable populations I work with, I prefer not to discuss my specific political views in public,” she wrote in a statement shared...by Jesse Brown, a Canadian Jewish publisher and journalist. “I believe all policing of artists’ personal identities and nationalities is wrong.”

But after the CJN article was published on Wednesday, the festival deleted its “Accountability Statement.” It has not responded to a JTA request for comment..."

Was the ban because of just being in the IDF, or to do with something she did?

Attending virtual EMS rounds with a neurologist and he said that recognition of strokes in women is a problem because they tend to present differently and as a result outcomes are worse. I had heard that about heart attacks but that's a new one for strokes. And so it's yet another area where we have gender disparity in health care.

That's a really interesting question. I would assume he was not thinking of transwomen, and that statistically their inclusion or exclusion wouldn't be noticeable, but it certainly raises a question of what the risk is for trans vs AFAB

I can see some stuff in NCBI and PCORI, but doubt there is a whole lot of funding for something like that

#Obama should have codified #Roe as promised. #Biden should have codified Roe as promised. Campaigning on the Court is a ploy to GOTV and to raise more campaign cash:

“We really need a book titled ‘Those Who Knew Roe Was Never Enough and the the SC would overturn Roe.’ There are thousands such people.”

"All I got in return is rising fascism"

Sure, which has many causes - one of which is success. As diversity climbs, and previously underrepresented constituencies gain visibility, so does the rightward backlash. The panic by white men who feel their privilege slipping away is palpable and not a failure on our part.

"It’s radicals who change the country"

Yes. and most big-bang shifts are nasty. Most positive change is through incremental improvement

Spicy!

"I sure don't hear enough straight old white man opinions!"

Nope, we have too many old white men deciding stuff, and could do with more women, BIPoC, and LGBTQ+ voices. Which is why I deliberately promote them ahead of myself on panels, leading research projects, getting plum tasks and roles, and getting promoted.

"Heaven forbid we should disrupt your cushy ..."

I favor incremental improvement because IT WORKS BETTER

If he wins, we are very likely to lose democracy, and it would likely set the country back by 500 years. The country would likely break up, and some states would sink to 3rd world conditions. It would not be possible to put it back together, and some regions will never recover.

The primary reason for the conflict now is precisely because there HAS been change. The fascist swing is due to that shift, and a minority trying to keep power

"backlash against Obama because he was Black.... what else"

Certainly bc he was Black, but a whole constellation of other stuff.
A Black guy as president shocked them, and many suddenly noticed a lot of the change, and how women, Blacks, and PoC were in good jobs. There is a sociological boundary when a lot of people shift from helpful to antagonistic, and it pivots around visibly "different" people in "their" environment

Check out the stats on "deaths of despair"

There is a segment of the population that are white, male, and Christian, and who have been seeing their privileges melting away, and women and BIPoC gaining ground. Many of those white guys interpret as "being replaced" and influencers have been peddling that for decades.

The collapse in 2008 hit many of them, and Industry 4.0 is hitting them. They feel their identity as males disappearing.

I am very much in favor of billionaires undertaking wildly unsafe adventures so long as they are the only one's at risk

I think they should try their hands at canyon-leaping, hyena-whispering, boomslang petting, and the defusing of landmines and unexploded bombs.
