Good day to you, fellow comrades in the resistance to fascism.

I come to you once more, to ask for your assistance

in defraying the costs of beating Leukemia with a monthly infusion

of baby unicorn tears.

Here's some photos of the fun times I had at chemo. I can accept your generous help via the links below.

Part of getting the new community instance (datavis.social) up and running was deciding on my profile header. I went with an IterativeArt piece I created with code and the text "F*ck Cancer".

I started working on this piece in the days after my diagnosis but before going in for surgery. Even with my frustrations and scary emotions about Cancer, that I was feeling at the time, I still wanted to make the piece beautiful. As usual :)

#SanFrancisco based study finds 80% of #AsianAmerican women with #LungCancer never smoked & #researchers are trying to figure out why.

5 yrs ago, Vicky Ni got a call from her doctor. She'd gone in for an X-ray for a pinched nerve. The next thing she knew, she was sitting in an #oncologist's office.

The 48 yr old mother of 2 was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, 2nd most common #cancer in both men &women in #UnitedStates.

My neighbor and friend was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (bone cancer). She is in good spirits and says “it’s very treatable”. This is true, but it’s also terminal and at stage 3 (which hers clearly is) has only a 30% 2-year survival rate. Her docs have not told her this and maybe that’s for the best, but the scientist in me is screaming inside that she should have more and all the information so she can make decisions about her care. /sigh/ I will focus on being her friend.

Researchers think unknown carcinogenic factors could be behind a genetic mutation found in more than 70% of certain kidney cancer patients in Japan, a higher percentage than in other countries. The cancer type is also prevalent in central and northern Europe. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2024/05/15/japan/science-health/kidney-cancer-mutation-in-70-of-japanese-patients/

This is how healthcare works in the US and it'll never get better until capitalism is dead. 😡

"According to the Sheriff’s office, a 68-year-old homeless man with terminal cancer chose to get arrested to get healthcare.

"'He re-committed a crime to get put back in the facility so he could receive treatment,' Owens said."
