Here is Stephanie P. Jones' take on SCOTUS's decision to grant cert in the immunity case.

https://blog.stephaniejones.com/2024/03/01/yes-the-supreme-court-could-have-declined-the-case-but-then-what/

@Teri_Kanefield

Thank you for sharing this! In a nutshell she explains that had the court not taken the case, the matter would remain unresolved for the other Trump legal cases. This would have certainly resulted in additional appeals and delays in these matters. By taking the case they will answer the matter once and for all causing a delay to the DC case, but resolving it definitively.

Don't pretend to understand these matters, but really appreciate the level headed analysis.

But what if we're not battling chemical hooks in our brains? What if the overtures to connection, as shallow as they may be, are a reflection of what we need?

Imagine if all the collective money spent of “self driving cars” had been spent on public transport.

As in, not cars - which are ultimately bad solutions for most of the world - but punctual and pervasive clean-energy public trams, trains, and buses.

It’d have cost less and been far more useful for far more people. Including non-drivers. And actually be here. Today. Working.

mastodonmigration,
@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

@mattwilcox

The problem with that, is that self driving cars are a grift, and as such they don't need to actually work. The entire scam is to suck up investor dollars and cash them out without making anything useful. If the money were actually spent on something beneficial, then there would be accountability, and it would be impossible to reap massive fortunes off of hype and nonsense ponzi schemes.

Never understood the potential valuations that the media has been attributing to this crooked SPAC grift. They are credulously reporting it like Trump can somehow mint all this paper and somehow turn around on a dime and unload it on the public, despite having very little underlying value. Good luck with that.

Intuitive Machines has some more news today about their IM-1 lander.

Reuters: Odysseus moon lander hailed as success as it nears mission-ending slumber >>> https://www.reuters.com/technology/space/odysseus-moon-lander-continues-generate-power-intuitive-machines-says-2024-02-28/

Ok, they got a few more pictures downloaded, as well as some data, but a success? Think we know a success when we see one, and this is not one. When a lander tips over or a rocket blows up, it's not a success. All this transparent gaslighting of the public does not instill confidence in private space enterprise.

mastodonmigration,
@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

Not saying, useful science is not accomplished in these mission failures. Both can be true.

But it seems like a big change in space reporting since NASA has handed so much over to private enterprise is that truth and transparency has one out the window.

The best political sage right now is Simon Rosenberg. Rather than get sucked down by the MSNBC doom merchants, how about tuning in to a daily dose of positive punditry and activism? Despite what you may have heard, all is not lost. In fact, we are winning! They are broke, in chaos, and struggling with holding support together for a lunatic candidate who is becoming more unglued ever day. The Democratic "party is remarkably unified as we head deeper into 2024."

"Some have asked about Biden getting fewer votes in MI on Tuesday. Of course he did! Rs had a competitive primary and we didn’t..."

"Democrats like their President, think he is doing a good job, and are going to fight very hard to get him re-elected. We have work to do to bring our entire coalition along, but I feel good about where we are..."

"[A] meaningful chunk of Republicans are not going along with the extremist MAGA direction of their party now..."

How it works now:

  1. "Open"AI, Microsoft, Google, et al vacuum up everything they can find, then regurgitate it, filled with BS.

  2. It's such a novelty that pundits go gaga.

  3. Investors pump billions into AI companies, which need more and more stuff for their databases.

  4. Web services where we create or store information sell it to the AI companies unless we a) discover that they're doing it and b) opt out.
