Mein Vater und ich streiten uns viel über Politik, wir sind selten einer Meinung.
Aber er hat glasklar, was da abgeht.

After spreading “white genocide” myths and demonizing migrants, there’s no denying it: Elon Musk is a racist.
But he’s been pushing racist ideas in a less overt way for years. He dismissed racist abuse in his factories or pushed eugenic ideas about population levels. We need to reckon with why so may were unwilling to call it out sooner.

#Pixelfed can import your #Instagram feed, via pulling in JSON archive. What is really useful is that the posts can be backdated with their original post dates, so that 1) it doesn't look like you've spammed a ton of posts and 2) proper historical context is preserved.
Why Mastodon account importing isn't done the same way eludes me, as it would alleviate a particular pain point of switching instances. Well done, Pixelfed!

Just wow. Our treatment of refugees is so inhumane that Medecins Sans Frontieres (better known for providing medical care in refugee camps near war zones) has felt compelled to spend resources to set up shop in Essex. What a shameful indictment of the UK's inhumanity towards people in need.
Whatever we might think about how migration is handled across Europe (in in the UK), one significant result is the underemployment of skilled migrants;
the Migration Policy Institute has a whole subsection on what they refer to as 'Brain Waste' - given the skills shortages across the world & its economic impact(s), we seem to be acting against our best interests because we are (politically) suspicious of migrants;
UN says a record 6.9 million people are now internally displaced #IDP within the Democratic Republic of #Congo#DRC due to escalating violence.
The Intnl Org. for #Migration has collected tracking data - the vast majority of those displaced live in the east where conflict is cited as the primary cause.
In North #Kivu alone, up to a million people have fled their homes this year due to the ongoing fighting with #M23 rebels.
Behind the #HomeOffice's measures to make 'legal' #migration more difficult (prev. posted) likely lies the record net migration from non-EU countries in 2022 reported by the ONS this morning.
But, to put that in a little context, the #OECD is also reporting the migration to rich countries has also reached record levels... driven by exactly the same forces seeing the UK:
'the vast majority of immigration to Britain is the result of conscious choices to deliver things people actively want, such as an NHS that has a fighting chance of not collapsing this winter or universities that don’t go bust for lack of foreign students. Stopping it is, of course, technically possible, but the price will be public services falling over plus another dismal decade of low to nonexistent economic growth'!

Migrant care workers are being betrayed by the tied-visa system that bought them to the UK... when sponsors are striped of their license, it tis the care workers who are effectively punished - forcing them into a precarious race for alternate employment.
This is just one part of a national political hypocrisy on 'economic migration'... we want/need workers to fill posts, but some just want to punish them for coming here;
