As citizens in the #EU head to the polls, far-right parties in the bloc have all converged around one key issue: #migration. Nicholas Startin, Associate Professor in Politics and International Relations at John Cabot University in Rome, tells FRANCE24's Tom Burges Watson that the fact that the far-right parties are not used to transnational cooperation and their inherently nationalist stance may be a hindrance to forming a major coalition. #elections#FarRight
I'm currently trying to migrate a #mastodon server from masto.host to self-hosted and having problems (I already shut down the server, so I'm posting from an old account).
Does somebody know which files in the backup are which in the mastodon migration guide?
I'm also having trouble with restoring the PostgreSQL backup ('pg_restore: error: connection to server on socket "/var/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5432" failed: FATAL: Peer authentication failed for user "mastodon"').
Thanks for any help!
(It would be nice if someone could boost this, because given that this is an old account, I don't think many people would see this post otherwise.)
President Joe Biden is expected to issue an executive order that would shut down asylum requests to the U.S.-Mexico border once the number of daily encounters hits 2,500 between ports of entry, according to sources.
🚨 NEW REPORT "From Cutro to Pylos: what two shipwrecks reveal about Europe’s deadly migration policies"
Our report looks back at the Cutro and Pylos shipwrecks to reveal how EU migration policies led to these tragedies. We show how, in both accounts, the shipwrecks occurred despite advanced knowledge of the situation from a combination of Frontex surveillance and NGO alerts.

Even the eagles have changed their route to avoid the Ukraine war, when will people realize the futility of war and put an end to it?
Eagles changed their migration routes across Ukraine to avoid fighting and because their habitats were likely damaged or destroyed by war, say scientists.
THREAD: I made a series of images for an Instagram post I made about migrating to the fediverse. I figured I'd share with anyone else who wants to use, so I included some blank template versions too. DM if you'd like the Adobe Illustrator file so you can make your own edits. And please, comment if I got anything wrong so I can correct it.
A stopping point on the way to Australia? 'thousands of stone artefacts and animal bones in a deep cave in Timor Island has shed light on the timing and nature of early human migrations through Indonesia to Australia.'

"The site of Laili is especially fascinating as it demonstrates a large human population settled on the island between 49-43,000 years ago,” Griffith University’s Research Fellow Kasih Norman
'The occupation of Laili therefore appears to be part of the large-scale migration of modern humans that took place across the globe between 70-40,000 years ago.'
Greater spotted #eagles changed their #migration routes to avoid the Ukraine war.
'researchers believe the Greater Spotted Eagles skirted around dangers including artillery fire, jets and tanks as well as buildups of troops.'
...
'The findings reveal they made large deviations from their previously tracked routes. They also spent less time stopping at their usual refuelling sites in Ukraine or avoided them entirely.
'As a result, they traveled farther, about an extra 52 miles (85km) on average.'
Just like whenever a Scot has his pounds sterling refused in an English shop, and there's always another Scot that magically appears to object: "Ehh I think you'll find that's legal tender!"...there's a similar phenomenon in Linux where whenever a conversation is held about moving to Linux from another platform, usually Windows, there invariably appears one of the .00001% of users who requires Adobe or some other insanely specific use-case software that Linux doesn't (yet) cater to. "I'd love to move, BUT...."
Linux: great for 98% of use-cases but holy good gravy you'll hear about that last 2% every time you dare mention it. Do these people have alerts set up for conversations like these? How do they keep finding them??? Would be nice to read at least one where folks are generally "Linux is great for most users".
NB: thanks for not commenting on my extremely unscientific illustrative percentages.
