For this #FollowFriday, I added several very sought-after features to the the Discover Mastodon portal. To make it even easier to find great content on here:
anyone with an established Mastodon account can opt-in for a profile
if you have a profile already, you can directly modify the topic tags on your profile (choose from 70+)
more accessibility-related improvements everywhere (tooltips, aria-labels, and more!)
Thanks to those who pointed out that our previous post lacked diversity. We're sorry — and we agree with @kimzetter that there needs to be more recognition for female journalists in this and all fields. Here are 7 to follow:
@kimzetter — author of "Countdown to Zero Day"
@KerryTNews — TV news reporter now focused on helping people understand cyber
Six months since launching our editorial desks, curated by our team. Sharing all 5 of them for #FollowFriday. Using hashtags to make them more discoverable.
make the list of active topics visible on mobile devices 👀
rank order the topics by activity/level of engagement
increase the frequency of data updates (now every 6 hours)
Taken together, these updates yielded really neat results that I think many folks will enjoy. For example: comic books, gardening, and Canada were surfaced as featured topics during internal testing.
One thing we love about Mastodon is the community's curiosity about the world. Here are a few of our favorite Magazines (topical feeds of content) we think you may like:

It’s #NewstodonFriday — such a shame it’s been a slow news week! Just to refresh your memories, this is a day to feature work from newsrooms with an active presence in the #Fediverse. If you like what you see in the (long!) thread below, follow the profiles and boost their stories. If you’re a journo or newsroom that we don’t know about or if there’s a newsroom you’d love to put on our radar, please let us know in the comments below.
