LibreOffice has some really excellent getting-started Guides for their open-source Office Suite

There are some good reasons why Microsoft Office gets used widely, and that is often because it comes pre-installed as trialware on Windows PC’s, it is pushed into schools and universities with educational discounts, it has massive funding for lobby ...continues

@george if logic determined voting, we'd probably be way better off today already... It feels like letting the kids run the school instead of a parent's governing body. Many globally are starting to realise that politics and democracy are not what they were made out to be. No idea what could be better, but it is probably a discussion that needs to be had at some point. We need a license to drive, but to vote I can be as clueless as I want to be, yet I'll be deciding the future of my country.

We have just signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Australia focused on sustainable critical and strategic minerals.

This means:
🦘 Strengthened supply chains for critical minerals
🦘 Research and innovation to reduce environmental impacts

The stupidity of Brexit was obvious before it became law, but the consequences are indeed, as predicted, an ongoing "shitshow" -- as this example demonstrates: https://www.theguardian.com/business/article/2024/may/26/why-travelling-on-eurostar-from-the-uk-is-about-to-become-much-trickier

@george @mozilla pretty sad they have to pay! Firefox, LibreOffice, Python, etc should all be at the centre of our education to teach open source, freedoms of choice, lower costs to doing business, etc without vendor lock in.

Did Meta, “Call of Duty” and gun manufacturer Daniel Defense “groom” the shooter who killed 19 students and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas? Wrongful-death lawsuits brought by the victims’ families say yes. Read more from Tech Crunch: https://flip.it/QVEKdG

danie10,
@danie10@mastodon.social avatar

@TechDesk crazy how would car manufacturers be held accountable for a driver who drives drunk or drives over a pedestrian... Games like this, too, can also help alleviate the rage that some people feel. If the allegation is correct, the majority of these players should be committing shooting crimes specifically.

I have broken two French presses this year after owning both for over a decade. Glass is just borrowed.

That means I'm down to making in the džezva today. I still have a moka pot but this reminds me of my time in Croatia. It's a slower, more thoughtful brew.

Might help me cut down my caffeine consumption before the big tournament in August, too. I learned at the last tournament that I won't be able to have coffee mid-day so I need to be prepared for that.

@leoncowle the thing is the word may actually be an "easy" one but the jumble of letters with zero hint as to what is right or right, really can make it hit or miss. There is actually little you can pick up from the letters.

danie10,
@danie10@mastodon.social avatar

@karmalakas yellow snow ;-) Another challenge is quite a few words end up being US spelling or US-centric terms like currency names. So that also accounts against many not living with those terms.

@kravietz wow was that a single hop or through other nodes? We've only managed 44.7 km direct so far from a 350 m high mountain. It has helped though light up a lot of areas and relay between the nodes that are all on level ground.
