Germany’s AfD is so extreme it was kicked out of the far-right grouping in the European Parliament last month, but Elon Musk thinks their policies “don’t sound extremist.” That’s because he’s also a fascist.

And everyone internationally has given Macron too much credit for too long

Ok, he’s more charismatic than Hollande, appears more reputable than Sarkozy, and has more vigour than Chirac

But at heart he’s just as much of a top down thinks he knows best elitist as his predecessors

This Macron calling an election is such a “I think I know best” manoeuvre.

If you’ve just suffered a defeat in the EP elections, going “oooh I’ll make you go vote again, to back me or not” comes across (to me anyway) as aloof and stupid.

Maybe pause and ask yourself why what happened did happen? Just an idea…

Before they will let me publish a new release of XScreenSaver on the "Play" [sic] store, Google, the most rapacious privacy violator ever, insists that a screensaver have a privacy policy.

This is where you come in!

I'd like this policy to be a series of bullet points: "Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will not [Thing.] An endless, concise catalog of their sins.

I need both your snark AND a link supporting your snark. It's critical for the joke to land. Include both.

GO!!

William Anders, astronaut on the Apollo 8 mission, passed away earlier today.

Anders took the iconic Earthrise photo while orbiting the Moon with Borman and Lovell. No human had ever seen an Earthrise before.

On the transmission he says "Oh my God, look at that picture over there! It's the Earth coming up. Wow, is that pretty!"

Retired Maj. Gen. William Anders, the former Apollo 8 astronaut who took the iconic “Earthrise” photo showing the planet as a shadowed blue marble from space in 1968, was killed Friday when the plane he was piloting alone plummeted into the waters off the San Juan Islands in Washington state. While is doing an absolute stupid with their new licensing terms, and (now Canva-owned) slashes prices by half in a "flash sale", I am once again asking people to consider supporting tools instead.

Yes, they are far from perfect.

But with a small fraction of what these closed source vendors are raking in, these tools could be made immeasurably better.

And they won't end up bought up and enshittified, as experience with past attempts at doing that to FLOSS tools shows.

Trump is testing the mainstream press. He’s saying in every way possible: Yes, I really am going to be a dictator. Yes, I really am going to dismantle the democratic institutions that have defined this country for 250 years. Yes, this really will be the last election, if I win it. And by the way, of course that means the end of a free press.

Now, how are you going to cover this political season? https://mastodon.social/@indivisibleteam/112576597337880208

So, here's a fun fact: have you ever wondered how exactly U.S. president Franklin D. Roosevelt convinced Americans that Hitler was bad, considering he ran a country that was itself deeply racist and heavily antisemitic, had a sizeable fascist movement, and used much similar economic policies as Germany in the late stages of the Great Depression?

He framed it as supporting religious freedom, which the Nazis were encroaching on.

I didn't know that, until I read this bio.

Sony Will Use AI to Cut Film Costs, Says CEO Tony Vinciquerra

"“We are very focused on AI. The biggest problem with making films today is the expense,” Vinciquerra said at Sony’s Thursday (Friday in Japan) investor event. “We will be looking at ways to…produce both films for theaters and television in a more efficient way, using AI primarily.”"

Wow. So I expect the quality will go way down.

I could go down the long rabbithole of figuring out how to call g*mp's image manipulation tools from a commandline or API, or getting imagemagick installed on this PC and figuring out how to port it over there...

or I could be silly and take advantage of the fact that I'm applying gamma ramps to an 8-bit greyscale image. What's the difference between the "before" and "after" images? a different palette.

Two political scientists went to America Fest to look at how Republicans are appealing to voters of color by invoking law and order, conservative social values and mistrust of government.
