Before they will let me publish a new release of XScreenSaver on the "Play" [sic] store, Google, the most rapacious privacy violator ever, insists that a screensaver have a privacy policy.

This is where you come in!

I'd like this policy to be a series of bullet points: "Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will not [Thing.] An endless, concise catalog of their sins.

I need both your snark AND a link supporting your snark. It's critical for the joke to land. Include both.

GO!!

59 years ago today, Griswold v. Connecticut guaranteed the right to birth control.

Justice Thomas says the Supreme Court should "reconsider" that ruling.

And this week, 38 GOP senators voted against the Right to Contraception Act.

Republicans are coming for birth control.

I could go down the long rabbithole of figuring out how to call g*mp's image manipulation tools from a commandline or API, or getting imagemagick installed on this PC and figuring out how to port it over there...

or I could be silly and take advantage of the fact that I'm applying gamma ramps to an 8-bit greyscale image. What's the difference between the "before" and "after" images? a different palette.

Announcing Flask-SQLAlchemy-Lite, a new lightweight replacement for Flask-SQLAlchemy that provides engine configuration and session lifetime, but none of the other custom stuff in the prior extension. It works with Flask and Quart, sync and async. I figured out the core idea on the flight to PyCon US, teased it during FlaskCon, and now it's available! Check out the docs to get started! https://flask-sqlalchemy-lite.readthedocs.io

In case you were still wondering where the GOP stands on the right to contraception, look at the Senate. The fact GOP senators collectively blocked a vote on protecting access to contraception should really ring every alarm bell. No matter how much they try to distance themselves from the fallout from the Dobbs decision and downplay the deep fears over attacks on reproductive rights, their blockage of vote on a bill literally called the Right to Contraception Act really gives away the game.

"ADHD creates impulse control issues and, consequently, advertising takes advantage of a disability. Ergo, ad blockers are assistive devices and interfering with their operation for commercial gain constitutes a willful violation of the ADA."

Let’s do this.

The pace drags a bit and is repetitive in places but it is worth bearing with it when that happens because (a) this is a very important thing that western audiences should know about absolutely wildly extreme racism in our media, and (b) the ‘orientalist’ composition of “William Wallace music” had me laughing until I cried https://youtu.be/LR511iAedYU

A must-read from @ProPublica: New investigation details "significant financial benefits" that have gone from Trump world to witnesses in his court cases -- is not surprising, in a way.

https://www.propublica.org/article/donald-trump-criminal-cases-witnesses-financial-benefits

Only the latest, and perhaps starkest yet, reminder that it's all corruption, all the time in Trump world.

I hear that Trump apparatchiks were trying to get this article suppressed, so please read it and pass along the link to everyone you know.

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.
