New results from another completed guaranteed #basicincome pilot. This one was in Cambridge, MA where 130 people got $500/mo for 18 months. Did they work less? No. They worked MORE.
Recipients went from 36% FT employed to 40%. Those who didn't get it went from 30% to 28%. PT and seasonal employment also grew for those with the basic income.
That isn't unusual. Most of the pilots have shown increased employment.
Rural homelessness is rising six times as much as homelessness overall. I can see that; in real life, I'm seeing more and more people who are homeless being charged with trespassing, stealing, and other crimes that the police & courts like to harass homeless people with. #California has spent billions in trying to stop homelessness, yet the problem keeps getting worse. The count is now approaching 200,000. One reason is that it costs so much to live there. We should call it what it is -- price gouging. Companies & landlords that do it do not deserve to exist. The other solution is simple -- cut out the middleman and just give them the money. Unconditional #basicincome isn't some radical, futuristic idea. It's an investment in society. Think about it - wouldn't you be more likely to take a chance starting a new business if you knew your basic needs were covered? Let's stop thinking in terms of scarcity and instead choose abundance.
Unconditional #BasicIncome will be the floor beneath the tightrope of life - always there, ready to catch you if you fall. You'd have the confidence to take risks without fear of absolute destitution. UBI is about creating an environment of safety, and from safety comes creativity, innovation.
How many studies and pilots of #BasicIncome are we gonna do? For decades they just keep having the same result: overwhelming success, an extremely efficient way to reduce poverty and improve peoples' lives across the board.
It clearly works. It's time to move beyond the pilot stage.
PS: "the biggest problem poor people have is not having enough money" should not be a shock to anyone who isn't a paternalistic control freak asshole (almost certainly with overtones of racism too, for the record).
