I can't believe how #Portland voters keep electing the right-wing candidates, maybe the progressives moved out to Beaverton. Schmidt has gotten nothing but bad faith from the police and the republican city council isn't doing us much good either.
I participated in a workshop by city of #portland to discuss civic use of AI. I contributed a rubric of "assistive" versus "determinative". The first case may be a helpful use (subject to usual concerns about energy, creative rights, bias, etc etc etc). The second case is where things get dangerous. #pdx
Portland’s climate tax could fund energy-efficiency upgrades for 3,100 homes
Portland’s climate action fund is preparing to invest $140 million toward 3,100 home retrofits over the next five years. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, decrease energy usage, lower utility bills and increase housing resilience for qualified homeowners, renters and multifamily homes within Portland city limits

#Portland created its so-called inclusionary housing program, requiring low-cost apartments to be mixed in with market rate ones, as an effort to address the city’s inadequate supply of affordable housing
“It’s absurd for ODOT to claim that their proposed $1.9 billion 10-lane highway is in compliance with the city’s existing plans for #climateAction, sustainable #transportation investment or neighborhood development. We filed this lawsuit because state law requires ODOT to follow the city’s #cleanAir and climate goals. ODOT shouldn’t be allowed to advance a project that brazenly violates the city’s adopted plans.” -- #NoMoreFreeways#ODOTGTFOpdx#Portland
Grim news from the Burnside Bridge design team about the costs of any connection to the esplanade from 55+ft above. The nine (9) southbound freeway lanes right next to that seem to be a complication in getting structure onto anything seismically sound. #noMoreFreeways#MarquamBridgeIsFallingDown#Portland#transportation#ODOTGTFOpdx
> Hearing you brag about your trip that cost thousands of dollars is classist as fuck. Must be nice to have a disposable income and unlimited time to be a dickhead. You're just a racist asshole annoying other people around the world so you can come back annoy people who have to hear how "spiritually enriching" your time in India was and now you only eat chicken tikka masala

from OLCV's Mobilizing #ClimateAction Team: #Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF) "has invested millions in our communities and critical climate programs in our city. "The way to fight #crime is not with stops based on hunches and pretext, but by investing proactively in communities and with #policing targeted at people for whom there is suspicion of serious criminal conduct.
On the other hand, there is a real #trafficSafety problem in this country… #transportation officials should focus their efforts... better lighting… #protectedBikeLanes & pedestrian crossings; self-ticketing cars with speed limiters, … [#transit]" 🚎 🚲

> Daimler Truck North America said Friday it will spend $40 million to build a new electric vehicle engineering facility at its Swan Island headquarters, choosing Portland over two other sites it had considered. The company said it will also build a new $3 million Portland training facility.
I'm having a hard time believing, not that a #transportation agency would come up with a plan that was to sweep the broken glass and gravel off of the sidewalks and leave it in the bike lanes for a few days before sweeping it up, just that it wasn't done with intentional malice or disdain toward people on bikes. (months after it snowed and they graveled everything while plowing the snow onto the sidewalks) #BarburBlvd#pdxBikes#Portland#BikeTooter#ClimateDenial#CarSupremacy#ODOTGTFOpdx
