I wish #Portland had a #baseball team so badly. I can picture the drone shot they play on TV going over the river and underneath the bridges leading up to the stadium.
🌊 FLOOD WATCH 🌊 for the #Portland metro and surrounding areas from 15:00-22:00 Monday.
• T-storms this evening will produce heavy rain.
• Urban flooding possible. Never drive in flooded roads!
• Flash flooding on small streams is possible.
• Debris flows and mudslides are possible near recent wildfire burn scars.
Okay, time for an #introduction for my new HorrorHub home.
I'm Jason. I'm a software engineer for Disney, living near #Portland, Oregon in the US.
I'm also a #writer. Mostly #horror. You can find a couple of my short stories on PseudoPod: https://pseudopod.org/people/jason-rush/. But mostly, lately, I've been focused on longer stuff. I have a finished novel and am currently querying agents.
I post about lots of stuff, but often books, movies and TV.
Having seen most of the country over a few weeks, I can say that while places were cool in different ways, nowhere touches the Pacific Northwest and specifically #Portland. I didn’t go anywhere that didn’t feel like it would be a downgrade for me in pretty critical ways.
⚠️ EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH ⚠️ for the #Portland metro Sat PM to Mon PM.
• Temperatures up to 35°C (95°F) possible.
• Not much relief overnight with lows around 18°C (65°F).
• Don’t be dumb. Don’t overexert yourself outdoors. Utilize cooling shelters and libraries. Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles. Drink plenty of fluids. Care for those around you.
I’m crying….we don’t have AC in our apartment. I’m JUST starting to recover from the last heatwave in late October. I have heat intolerance due to #POTS and #MCAS. Part of our moving to the #PNW is because it’s historically cooler. Global warming fucked that. I don’t know what we’re gonna do. I barely made it out of the last one.
Salmon habitat restoration in southeast #Portland. A lot of the things done to restore habitat on small streams, such as removing culverts and restoring wetland areas are also things that help decrease #flood risk.
It’s almost like things were working just fine before we interfered to begin with.
In this photo of Duchess from the original Goat Field on SE Belmont in 2014, you clearly get a good example of how a goat’s eyes can rotate in their sockets, keeping the pupil parallel to the horizon.
This is so that the goat can lower their head to the ground while browsing or foraging but still maintain their wide field of view which allows them to keep an eye out for potential predators.
Wednesday looks like a good t-storm day for much of the Inland Northwest with favorable conditions stretching from about the Cascades to Central Montana and from near John Day, Oregon to Edmonton, Alberta including #Spokane.
Our best chance here in #Portland comes that night and early Thursday.
