CNN: Temperatures in Pakistan cross 52 degrees Celsius — that’s more than 125°F

"Temperatures rose above 52 degrees Celsius (125.6 degrees Fahrenheit) in Pakistan’s southern province of Sindh, the highest reading of the summer and close to the country’s record high amid an ongoing heat wave, the met office said on Monday.

Extreme temperatures throughout Asia over the past month were made worse most likely as a result of human-driven climate change, a team of international scientists have said. "

AP: Heat is killing howler monkeys in Mexico... "Meanwhile, an animal park in northern Mexico confirmed it has received reports that at least a hundred parrots, bats and other animals have died, apparently of dehydration...he number is likely only a small percentage of the animals affected...There are going to be a lot of casualties to the ecosystem if we continue this trend of heat waves in the region..."

ai6yr,

"Wildlife biologist Gilberto Pozo attributed the deaths to a heat stroke, noting a “synergy” of factors — including high heat, drought, forest fires and logging that deprives the monkeys of water, shade and the fruit they eat — appeared to be to blame, while saying a pathogen, disease or other factor can’t yet be ruled out."

@minervakoenig i am so sorry to hear, from you and others, that it is so hot again, and so early in the year, too. Last year I kept on reading and worrying about and . Just now i saw in this article that indeed there has been a 1000 % increase in mortalities! 290 homeless people in/around Phoenix last year. Just awful. I hope you are able to take good care of yourself.

Key Messages for Gulf Coast Heatwave

NOAA: A dangerous early season heat wave will cointue over South Texas, and intensify in South Florida, through Memorial Day. Record warm overnight temperatures in these areas will provide little to no relief to those without adequate or reliable cooling.

Heat impacts are likely to be highest in South Texas, where heat index readings approaching or exceeding 115 degrees are expected.
