Hey PDX folks! What local organization(s) do you think is/are doing the most effective job at combating homelessness? I'd like to donate a portion of my new raise.
After the protests and the library occupation at #Portland State, the university wanted police to monitor the 51st annual Naimuma Powwow, which was scheduled on campus for May 04. Organizers didn’t love that idea of having police there, so they rescheduled the powwow for May 25th.
Then something special happened: students and #Indigenous community members showed up on May 04 anyway, in the park blocks by the university, and held a spontaneous Powwow for #Palestine.
Rally at 1pm Thurs outside #Portland City Hall to save #PortlandStreetResponse from the proposed budget cuts, and sign up to testify after. Street Response has been far more cost-effective than police on calls for welfare checks or dealing with mental health issues on our streets without guns.
“…this #conservative campaign is not limited to #Portland—it’s a national trend that’s become particularly prevalent on the #WestCoast, as conservatives have infiltrated and are attempting to overthrow liberal strongholds in #Seattle and San Francisco as well.”
Apparently there's a mass protest for reproductive freedom in the planning stages for June 24th, the anniversary of the far right Supreme Court repealing Roe vs Wade, the day before I leave early in the morning for vidcon... It'll be exhausting but I'll see what I can find 😩 here's hoping someone involved in planning the #Portland version for it posts about it to something besides FUCKING FACEBOOK. 🙃🙃🙃
"Multnomah County elections officials will mail new ballots to 9,300 voters after omitting a proposed Metro Zoo bond from the ballots they sent to those people.
The voters who received the incorrect ballots live in three precincts in and around Gresham."
@arghdos Today’s episode brought to you by the formerly coin operated laundry machines at daughter’s #Portland apartment. These new jawns take no coins. App activated only 🤪. Now big laundry has our washing habits SMDH
remembering the world day of remembrance when Oregon Walks went around the #Portland metro area putting up silhouette cutouts of pedestrian fatality victims on the streetside and ODOT sent crews out to take them down because drivers kept slowing down at those crosswalks 😞
Today in "how dangerous are drivers of one specific race and gender in #Portland these days", I had some asshole in a green Trooper lean on the horn for the sin of...stopping for a school bus with the stop sign out and flashing.
On a road where you had to stop. He then continued to flip me off and motioned for me to approach his car.
I turned. Not worth getting shot at. But...this is becoming a real problem and the gutlessness of Polite Whoit Society to address the monsters within it? It's killing people.
There were KIDS CROSSING THE STREET my dude. Unlike you, my man, I don't give a fuck what race, gender, or whatever they are, they're FUCKING CHILDREN. It is your responsibility as an adult in this society not to fucking harm them worse than 40% of their parents of a specific race being Fascist fuckups are harming them already.
I know it's "rude" to point this out. But the monsters in your midst will get you given a long enough timeline.
Hey, just in case anyone in my extended #Oregon family (hi y'all!) doesn't already know: Republican Jeff Gudman has switched parties and is running in the #DemocraticPrimary as a Democrat this year, after getting iced in the general election (running as the Republican candidate) a few times over the past decade. Don't fall for the lie - please support the actual Democrat running against him for State Treasurer, Elizabeth Steiner. #Portland#JeffGudman#ElizabethSteiner#ORPol
Adrian Black from Adrian's Digital Basement will be sharing his story of ditching the day job to become a full-time YouTuber. Join him as he dives into the world of vintage computers, exploring his process of troubleshooting and fixing these fascinating machines using logic and critical thinking skills at #Portland#Linux / #Unix Group meeting at 7pm tonight, 5500 SW Dosch Rd,
#Portland's new Deputy City Administrator of Public Works will start July 1, in transition to the new form of government adopted by the charter reform measure. Public Works will include Water, Environmental Services, and #Transportation bureaus (which will be run by a City Administrator rather than elected commissioners of our current system.) #pdxBikes
I'm at a conference at the federal courthouse, and as I drove here l observed cops (not in riot gear) on every corner surrounding Portland State University (the urban campus downtown), and schoolbuses pulling up in front of the Schnitz and also backing up traffic on the freeway nearby. Looks like they're about to roust the antiwar encampment, and expecting multiple arrests. #Portland#PDX
