Lately on my mind has been... horseshoe orbits. ARE THEY 4 REALZ?
These come up all the time in planetary science and I know IN THEORY how they work: 2 objects share an orbit (e.g. moons, or a planet & asteroid) and from the perspective of one, the other appears to move in a horseshoe, approaching and then making a U-turn.

So I made a #blender3d animation to prove this, by the camera observing the planetary system and then chasing the planet to view from that perspective.
This is a short animation test I rendered out just to check the timing... this is probably the last thing I'll be working on with this scene, but the animation is slow going.
The final will rotate the cube as the truck traverses it. 😎
I sorta want to make a 60fps version, maybe at half speed. But that would mean 4x the frames as this one, and I'm not ready to devote 6 hours of render time to this.

I’d like to give some algorithms a good punch in the face, and shock them into noticing this, my first new release of the year. It’s my dream that I can spend my days making music and sharing bad jokes for all you beautiful beings. I’m working hard right now to release at least one new song per month for 2024. The goal is to supplement the income from my part-time job, at least enough that I don’t need to get a second job.
Additionally, if we can make a meaningful impact on a song release with this kind of action, I’d love if we were able to help other musicians and songwriters of Mastodon with their song launches in the future. Animation is not something I've ever formally trained in, but I enjoy doing it. I just tend to get really caught up in the details of the curves, making sure everything looks just right. 😅
