The puppy rover was supposed to be much more puppy-like in the video, but I ran out of time to animate it. This pre-production video better shows the potential expressiveness of the rover.
@skyfire747 This tutorial has aged somewhat, but was possibly the best thing I watched when learning Blender for Space Pop. I was using 3.2 and this video is made with 2.9, but I think it’s still relevant for drilling those basic functions.

Too kind! It was a fun track to record - Kaaren was awesome - and I sure did learn a ton about animation and 3d modelling and simulations. Fun though. Mostly.

I have Elite Dangerous, but played it for like three days after release before abandoning it. I don’t remember any vehicles from the game. It’s more influenced by the low-poly work of Imphenzia.
The rover was supposed to have puppy-like characteristics and be highly articulated, as seen in my test demo, but rover animations didn’t really make it into the main video due to time constraints.
@dgar I have to try out rendering at lower frame rates. I always do my animations at 24fps and I wonder if that's how it should be? But I edit in Davinci where I can change the clip speed and get 4 seconds when I rendered 2 seconds. I wonder if I should just render 12fps to save on render time.

If I remember correctly, I chose 8fps over 12fps. I watched side by side comparisons like this, and found I preferred the look of 8 over 12 frames per second. (Which dropped render time by another 1/3!)
