I have so many short story ideas, but I write only the first paragraph and just can't continue, yet the entire story is sitting there in my head anxious to come out. Because I've thought so much about the story that I know how it starts, how it ends, who the main characters are, but I can't get it out of my head..... Not sure how to get out of this state. It's been going for about a month now ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Its insomnia season so I'm looking for a new hobby. Perhaps night dancing.

Night dancers, in some places they are called night runners, are people who dance at midnight to bewitch others. They dance stark naked, sometimes covered in ash, at the door of the person they want to bewitch. They rub their naked butts on the door in the process, so one way to protect yourself is embed razor blades on the door.

I've been thinking of a film based on these people since 2009 but never gotten round to it.

Besides switching to LINUX (which I've tried a couple of times and failed at), how do I permanently turn off copilot and any other snooping AI "features" from Windows?

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/windows-11-recall-ai-feature-will-record-everything-you-do-on-your-pc/

dilmandila,
@dilmandila@mograph.social avatar

@realtegan by trying to switch to linux again.

I failed twice, and I realised its because I was opting for a distro that isn't similar to Windows. Then I discovered linuxmint (you can do most windows things in it, like Win+E to open File Explorer) and suddenly Linux was a lot of fun. Honestly, joining the fediverse shortly after made it smoother for whenever I had a question I would come here and post a question and get answers in minutes. In Reddit it would take days or never.

dilmandila,
@dilmandila@mograph.social avatar

@realtegan Oh okay... I'm sure you know of Wine? Doesn't work always as advertised but I used it to install windows stuff that I couldn't find in Linux, until I weaned myself of those. Not sure Wine can handle Steam though, but worth looking into it.

Having established that dandelion seed heads are definitely NOT known as DANDELION CLOCKS by everyone I have a follow on question...

What DO you know them as?

Chatting to people already I have had FLUFFS (Lithuania) and WINDY PUFFS (Canada) both of which are SUPERB.

Are there any others? Will there be enough to make a World Map of Dandelion Names?! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Places, names & any other trivia welcome!

While on the web I see a lot of posts on my timeline. But using @Tusky I don't see as much, just a handful from a few people over and over again. Or is it just me? Like the last five minutes, tried refreshing but no new posts come up. For 5 minutes?

Perhaps I'm missing something, or need to do something on the settings?

Is it just me or does everyone who works from home spend a lot of time in the kitchen, either cooking or washing dishes and cleaning stuff up? Its become annoying.

According to research by the Havard School of Futurism, by 2030 bananas will officially be called bananum, and strawberries will be strawberrum, because the Large Lying Models will make us believe these are the right words. The researchers quoted Aristotle who said "If you tell a lie three times while drinking a town's water supply, it will become the truth."

Ever since I quit Google I've stopped receiving junk emails, used to come about 10 a day and would end up in promotions folder, or updates, or socials, which google created. Now, I get nothing. Only newsletters, some of which are industry related so I don't mind them.

I now use @protonprivacy The downside is inability to log into separate email addresses. Everything comes into one inbox. I use filters to organize each email in its own inbox folder, but its still a little clumsy, and even clumsier when I try to use Bridge and separate the addresses in Thunderbird, because @thunderbird doesn't handle the folders well and looks very cluttered. If Proton can fix this, it will be a game changer. Privacy needs to go with along efficiency for businesses.

A lot of trees got seriously damaged in storms last winter, and were chopped down as a result. Nice to see so many of them fighting back this spring, and growing magnificent hairdos in the process.

dilmandila,
@dilmandila@mograph.social avatar

@wendinoakland @eclectech I thought so too, and for a moment I believed you had photographed the angry spirit of the tree

dilmandila,
@dilmandila@mograph.social avatar

@eclectech @wendinoakland I think you'll get a happy face if you used a thin line for a mouth, but the gaping black hole seems to give a different kind of impression. Or perhaps if there weren't too many teeth, just one or two as I've seen in some comics.

But it's a fun image!

Yesterday, for supporting my robot film, I rewarded patrons with a stylized wallpaper of a pied kingfisher sitting on a leafless branch (looks like a stick suspended in air). The foreground, bird and branch, is monochrome, the background is pale yellow. (Okay, alt-texting has taught me how to describe images, you get the picture?)

I have finally finished a novel that I have been writing since 2017 (I think I am now done!?) so wondering what the way forward is. Agent? Big Five/Four? But I would really prefer a reputable small press publisher (maybe Big Small Press๐Ÿ˜), so going to knock on doors again. If there is any you know that is open for submissions, I'll appreciate the tip.

It is a science fiction/fantasy story.

@evilcookies98 I keep thinking of it but I am not good at marketing and with self-pub you have to keep marketing to make sales. I would rather someone else worries about that side of things
