Rivotril, known generically as clonazepam, is a medication that belongs to the benzodiazepine class. It is primarily used to treat seizure disorders and panic disorders. Clonazepam works by enhancing the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter that inhibits activity in the brain, thereby producing a calming effect. Rivotril is commonly prescribed to control certain types of seizures, including absence seizures, myoclonic seizures, and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
