Does anyone know what these wee lumps are? I see so many of them on coastal walks around #Scotland. Always on the skyline and near the top of grass-covered rocky outcrops. They seem to be similarly sized - a few inches in diameter and a few inches high

I've asked plenty of people who are generally knowledgeable about nature, but none of them know what causes them. Some interesting speculation, though

Dipped a toe into a standards discussion and I remain convinced that it's not a world for me.

I wish we lived in a world where standards work was done by a wide, diverse, and open community rather than exactly the sort of technologist who loves to bikeshed.

It's such important work, and uniquely creates opportunities for amazing large-scale cooperation to happen. Too often, though, it's a place for insecure people to build little fiefdoms. 😢

I usually follow anyone back and it's very rare that I intentionally unfollow a mutual, but I just unfollowed someone whose account I realized is primarily promoting grind culture. Absolutely not.

No, I do not have 12 working hours on weekdays and 16 more on weekends to "create wealth." Sick of this pervasive ableist, capitalist, anti-humane attitude.

"You SHOULD be able to--" no I shouldn't and I can't! That's the whole thing. Let me rest FFS.

I have to actively fight "always available* bullshit at times, but for the long term good of the company it's the only way

Oh no. The Sonos app icon has changed. What have they done now? I’ve read the tirada and am hoping none of this affects my usage. Which is to hit play and have a playlist play on the same speakers. Which has worked 90% of the time every time for the last few years since the last app update.

The fact that X regards posts with links less valuable than just a text with an image with missing alternative text ruins it as a platform. No, I don't want to use this as my blog. And yes, a link to more information is more value than a pithy 240 character blurb.
So to those optimising for that nonsense - you lost me as a reader. I can't be arsed to find your post in this terrible timeline and then having to find the next just to see what you were on about.

Lazyweb, I cannot find a blog post I read in the last few months, does this ring any bells. I'm 90% sure it was a well known front end person who wrote it. It was a huge list of snippets about how lots of companies were using gen AI for coding. As you got down the list it gone bleaker.

At work, challenge Three Letter Acronyms (TLA) at every opportunity.

  • They are a barrier to entry for those who don't live in your work
  • People are embarrassed to ask, so at best they are distracted Googling. Mostly they are now just not understanding
  • When used in combinations they make sentences difficult to parse. "We're targeting key SLOs as a way to maintain our SLAs as one of our OKRs for EOW".

The system punishes you for not owing any money.

They told me: "You should get more loans to increase your credit score."

The system is predatory and wants you to be in debt.

Credit scores are one of the biggest scams.
