I'm generally quite excited in general about the PWHL but today I saw a headline about how Boston is the first team to qualify for the Walter Cup and I wondered what that was named for...

... only to found out that it's named for Mark Walter, the male founder of the league and owner of all the teams. Gross, man.

They don't even have names for the teams yet, but the cup? Yup, named after some fucking billionaire.

Nerdfest,
@Nerdfest@mastodon.online avatar

@casseagull I thought I heard the Ottawa team was called "The Alert", but I may be imagining things.

I am also nearly at my wit's end with iOS autocorrect correcting fucking to ducking. Where does Apple even get off with this fucking puritanical bullshit, honestly.

Even setting up the autotext to correct fucking to fucking it still corrects it to ducking and I hate it so FUCKING much.

Fuck fuck fuck fuck.

Nerdfest,
@Nerdfest@mastodon.online avatar

@casseagull Any way to remove "ducking" from the dictionary completely?

On the revert reds, TWICE this week I had revert reds happen to me (once I rolled off the dots too soon and the other I wasn't in the right place and forgot I wouldn't get my signal that way) and BOTH TIMES the motorists at the cross streets waved me to go through the intersection anyway. It was very nice.

I think that the first time (Kenilworth/Holland) the guy saw me swear up a storm when I saw it revert red lol

Nerdfest,
@Nerdfest@mastodon.online avatar

@casseagull I'm actually a little surprised people were that nice. Most of the time they don't even notice cyclists.

First day back at work after being on vacation for the last 2.5 weeks, so of course I forgot my pass when I went into the office, which also means I forgot my frigging locker key and don't have access to my keyboard and mouse or my cutlery for eating my lunch or my water bottle. HECK.

Nerdfest,

@casseagull Wow, you're pulling a full-on Monday right after vacation. Hard core.

@mariellequinton That would be against all generally accepted practices

This morning on my walk to my meeting, I saw one of those high-power scooters race (probably 40+km/hr) down St Patrick and completely blow the light at Dalhousie and was narrowly missed getting clipped by a car that had right-of-way.

No helmet, no gloves, or any other protection. That person is going to get themselves seriously injured in short order, methinks. 🤔

Nerdfest,
@Nerdfest@mastodon.online avatar

@WTL There was a dude in my neighbourhood on one of those one wheel thingies that would routinely do 60+ on local streets. No equipment ... seems be gone now.

@jleiper So composter temp is like pool temp and is done in imperial? Is that a convention, of does your thermometer only do imperial? Temperatures are confusing in Canada

The cushions of my Bose headphones started to come apart. There are replacement ones, but they are not cheap: CAD 37 at Bose and CAD 25-ish on Amazon (before tax and shipping).

Last winter, I repaired parts of them, but now the other half came loose (basically the glue is giving up I think). So I took a needle and threat and sewed the split halves back together.

Two black headphone ear cushions are sitting side by side. They look like new again, after the seals that had come apart have been sewed together again by Hans on the Bike himself, saving over 30 Canadian dollars.

Nerdfest,
@Nerdfest@mastodon.online avatar

@Hansonthebike Nicely done! I broke down and went for the replacements after face stubble wore holes through mine.

A question that I just heard someone else pose... and it seems really valid...

Whatever happened to cheap diner or automat food?

So cheap, that regular working stiffs, students, anyone on a budget, could grab a quick bite to eat and a hot cup of joe?

Even diner food is pricy nowadays. It's a special occasion to dine out, no matter where it is... But how did it happen? With all of our modern food manufacturing and shipping apparatus... shouldn't food be as affordable as ever?

What happened?

Nerdfest,
@Nerdfest@mastodon.online avatar

We're idiots and I have anxiety. We misunderstood each other, meters confused us with the trees, and I didn't fight back thinking Kyle knew better than me lol

We definitely don't have space for two of the three trees we bought yesterday 🫠

We'll have nice trees to donate (anyone? Lol).

We'll keep the magnolia, and we got a dappled willow, a weeping larch and a dwarf Korean lilac instead. We feel stupid, but much better with our new choices.

As I said, we're idiots.

81yo Dad has COVID. Doing OK so far.

65yo brother-in-law has COVID too.

I tested negative this morning, but have symptoms.

We've been out and about, and haven't been masking. Vaccinations up to date and no health issues, aside from Dad's age.

Sister's place, PWHL game, Dad visits his gf at the LTC home regularly, it's had a COVID outbreak, but I think it was a couple months ago...local restaurant, etc etc.

It's still going around

I have some white plastic chairs which look dirty, but will not wipe clean. While they are old, they are not all scratched up and the finish seems intact. The plastic just seemed to have darkened in some areas.

Rather than landfill them (or worse save them but never use them), there must be a "land on a comet" age cleaner, or paint that will make these look like they are only two years old.

Help me hive mind!
