These EV Ultra-Rapid chargers at Sainsbury’s (UK Supermarket) are FAB! Real easy to use. And they give you a QR code that takes you to a personalised real-time view of your charge.

Real nice!

ross,
@ross@fosstodon.org avatar

@castaway 65p I think. Cheaper than most ultra-rapids.

ross,

@castaway Residential ones?

So. Yay! I finished an epic book.

It was GREAT! But I gotta be honest, I wish I’d spent 35 hours reading a book that had some kind of conclusion.

I know it was part 1 of many, but I still wished things were more wrapped up.

Also, there’s too much detail in battle scenes.

But what a great read. I was totally into it for most of the time and I’m not a big fiction reader.

ross,
@ross@fosstodon.org avatar

@chris I nearly wrote how this was like Spider Man: Across the Spiderverse, which is felt totally conned by as it didn’t even advertise that it was part 1 of two! But I went into this knowingly.

Even so, and like you, I would have liked more resolution. Especially after reading for so long!!

ross,
@ross@fosstodon.org avatar

@chris Yeah. 2.5 hours or whatever of absurd and over-complicated plot line tangling just to be told you have to pay more to have it all resolved.

Very much in the vain of The Matrix, or Pirates of the Caribbean, the first film was the best and enough. Just watch that.

If you have a version of your resume in HTML, I’d love to see it! For learning/curiosity/inspiration.

@bw Hah. Yes. Bear in mind I’m NOT a designer and this idea was fleshed out in a hurry and needs some polish.

I’m loving all the retro gaming and emulation stuff that’s happening in a big way now (yeah I know it’s not new).

Questions:

  • is there any official way to buy ROMs? Will the game owners ever catch on to this? In happy to pay!
  • are downloaded ROMs safe? Can they do anything bad?

An American friend of mine thinks beans on toast is disgusting. So to all none Brits (as we find it delicious)…is it disgusting to you?

Side note - I find it astonishing that someone from the country that invented “cheese in a can” can find this “dish” disgusting. 😂

ross,
@ross@fosstodon.org avatar

@kev It’s acceptable. But no butter (buttering toast and then adding beans is weird) and you’ve got to add some kick like Worcestershire sauce.

So here’s a thing.

I like structured communication. Document templates. Emails with headings and executive summaries. Bulleted lists. Meeting agendas.

But… it occurred to me today…

Is this a generational thing?

I really want to get others in my life to see the benefits of it.

But are younger generations (I’m mid forties) just not into this stuff? Is it not actually beneficial for them because they are so adept at unstructured comms?

Wow! This IS a big solar storm. Southern England. We can see aurora with Naked eye despite light pollution. Long exposures working well!!

The Scrabble game logic and scoring is so well ingrained in my muscle memory. But writing it down was really hard!

Not proud of the code that achieved this. It was pretty brute force!

My Scrabblish game now has skip/swap tiles! 🙌

Two more major things to add:

  1. Double/triple squares
  2. Instructions!

Then the rest is just polishing.

Really happy with how this turned out.

ross,
@ross@fosstodon.org avatar

@castaway You should be able to drag and drop tiles in the rack too! 😃

Curious to know what you all think:

Does the indie web re-open the doors for techniques that are less used these days, such as left hand nav, iframe/table layouts, etc?

I know you can build whatever you want but there are also requirements around accessibility, performance, etc. that never used to be a factor.

ross,
@ross@fosstodon.org avatar

@jackmcconnell Why does the indie web have these accessibility/performance requirements and not other sites?

I don’t understand the question.

ross,
@ross@fosstodon.org avatar

@jackmcconnell Ah. You’re comparing modern indie web with personal sites from the 90s.

I thought you were comparing modern indie web to other modern sites.

I would say that modern dev techniques enable these improvements. You shouldn’t have to go back to older ways to achieve the requirements.

@ross@fosstodon.org avatar

Oh gosh. If there’s one thing more inaccessible than a PDF for school comms that go far and wide to a diverse audience of people with all sorts of devices and IT skills…

My son decided to try randomly typing a game code into the serverless-scrabble thing (games are encoded in URLs).

I mean... it TRIED!!! 😂

(If you want to know what's going on: https://rosswintle.uk/2024/04/static-not-scrabble/)

(If you're bored of all my talk about this... I'm sorry. I made something neat, and I really want people to use it!!!)

ross,
@ross@fosstodon.org avatar

@Hunterrules0_o In the game?

You click/tap where you want to play.

Click again to change direction.

Click tiles to play them.

ross,
@ross@fosstodon.org avatar

@castaway No. it just derives player 1/2 from the number of moves.

I’d LOVE to know what happens if you do that. 😂

(Basically, each reply you get will be a fork of the game from your first move)

Probably better in DMs but totally up to you! 😉

Loving working on the serverless Scrabble clone. Nice, intricate logic. Fun to test!

https://words.pico.games/

Fixed some simple, but hard-to-find bugs for edge cases tonight. You can now actually play a game right to the end! 🤦‍♂️

I'm thankful for people playing and reporting bugs! 🙏

Key things to add:

  • Skip/swap tiles as a feature
  • Double/triple squares on the board

Then it’s kinda complete!

Nice to haves:

  • Some drag-and-drop or keyboard entry
  • Some instructions
  • Better UI/design
