59 years ago today, Griswold v. Connecticut guaranteed the right to birth control.

Justice Thomas says the Supreme Court should "reconsider" that ruling.

And this week, 38 GOP senators voted against the Right to Contraception Act.

Republicans are coming for birth control.

My wife just asked me what the Black equivalent of a Karen is. I said there isn't one, they get shot.

This is what privilege is. It's being able to be an asshole to retail workers without the fear of being shot.

So the Black man that everyone was laughing at for dialing in to his court case from his car, while his license was suspended, is not so foolish. Racism has people laughing at its victims.

https://www.wxyz.com/news/why-was-the-driver-in-a-viral-videos-license-still-suspended-2-years-after-a-judge-ordered-it-lifted

We'll see how many of the people that were laughing because they thought "Foolish criminal dials in from car, on suspended license case!🤣" have anything cute to say now. You know that none of them will.

It's just the regular anti-Black cruelty in the US criminal justice system.

Things you could do on top of the harm reduction strategy of voting:

  • Unionizing
  • Radicalizing your union
  • Joining or forming a mutual aid organization (not "tossing $20 around via gofundme," organizations)
  • Building a tenant's union
  • Running for office/getting referendums
  • Doing 5calls and showing up at elected representatives townhalls
  • Talking to your neighbors, baking them a pie

Again: you have 365 days that aren't election day this year. What are you doing with them?

MAGA people: You just opened Pandora's Box. This means all presidents can be convicted of crimes. Republicans or Democrats. Bet you didn't consider that, did you?

Reasonable people: Yes idiots, that's the fucking point.

When Trump says, "The real verdict will be on November 5," he's basically admitting the the purpose of his presidential campaign is try to escape the consequences of his crimes.

I was taught about decision tables in electronics class many years ago as a way of simplifying discrete logic circuits. They are also useful in software so just pointed one of our grads at this nice explanation by Hillel Wayne:

News: “Storms are increasing in frequency and intensity, tornadoes are striking in areas not normally hit, people are dying.”
People: Climate change isn’t real.

People: “Jeez, everyone just seems sick all the time. My kids have been coughing since last year, I have this weird tingling in my hands for some reason, and I can’t remember shit.”
Same people: “Covid is just a cold. I’ve had it four times with no ill effects whatsoever.”

People suck

The author’s direct observations at USC, backed up by national study: “With few exceptions, the encampments have been overwhelmingly peaceful, well-organized microsocieties.” “The image of a lawless, violent, antisemitic pro-Palestinian mob stands completely at odds with the reality.”

But people •were• violence at USC. Who?

inthehands,
@inthehands@hachyderm.io avatar

Just in case it’s not obvious: there is another way. And it’s the obvious one.

There was no violence at the college where I teach. There was a multi-day occupation of a campus building in support of Palestine and in support of peace — but no police, no violence. Why?

Because the administration actually •talked• to the protestors, while publicly defending their first amendment rights. They worked together on a specific plan of action, and the occupation ended. That’s it. The one weird trick.

What a week in AI!

  • Microsoft releases its biggest invasion of your privacy in decades!
  • Sam Altman violates Scarlett Johansson to get her likeness for his digital parrot!
  • Google UX legend Scott Jenson declares idea bankruptcy at Google and panic driven AI development because they want to lock you in faster than their competitors!

This shit is going great!

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

Three Copilot+ Recall questions that keep coming up.

Q. Can you alter the Recall history?

A. Yes. You can change the OCR database and change the screenshots as the logged in user or as software running as the local user. There is no audit log of changes.

Q. Are they snapshots, as Microsoft says, or screenshots?

A. They are just screenshots, jpegs.

Q. What is to stop apps on your machine accessing your Recall covertly?
A. Nothing. There is no audit log of access.

a new article on 9to5Mac comparing the iPad Pro with the upcoming Surface Pro. unfortunately it also conveniently ignores the fact that one is effectively running a super limited phone OS while the other a fully flexible desktop OS.

I hope that this will finally force Apple to allow iPad Pros to run macOS (even virtualized) as all that awesome power is just getting wasted.

If you find your tests are running slower in 2.8.0, don't forget that we changed the parallelization algorithm, and you can revert back to the old one if needed. https://github.com/xunit/xunit/issues/2920#issuecomment-2123176031
