“After the Hamas terror organization carried out the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, after committing heinous sexual crimes witnessed by the world, these countries chose to reward Hamas and Iran by recognizing a Palestinian state."

So, have we yet found any factual evidence of sexual crimes commited by Hamas? I'm just asking for a friend.

timorl,
@timorl@social.wuatek.is avatar

@rad While there is nothing during the attack itself afaik, there are credible reports of sexual assaults happening at other points in time. Nothing systemic I think, so maybe you could argue that it’s “not Hamas, only single members”, but this kind of hairsplitting isn’t really helpful.

timorl,
@timorl@social.wuatek.is avatar

Israel is not a "Jewish State".

Israel usurps the representation of the diverse Jewish peoples and passes imperial interests as the interests of the Jews.

Israel is an apartheid State.

Israel is a settler colonial State.

Israel is NOT a "Jewish State".

timorl,
@timorl@social.wuatek.is avatar

@8petros This is Israeli law though, so “it claims to be” is more accurate than “it is”, which is consistent with the OP. This is kinda like saying Taiwan/PRC is the only China legally, since they both claim to be. @argumento

Fedi, please help me with Firefox and PDFs.

When I click on a link to a PDF, Firefox does one of three things:
a)Display the PDF in-browser, without saving it to a permanent location on my computer.
b)Open a dialogue window asking me where I want to save the PDF.
c)Download and save it in my "Downloads" folder without asking me, and then display it in-browser.

It seems to pick one of these three behaviors at random. I can't discern any pattern.

The thing is, I never ever ever ever ever want it to do (c). If I'm saving a single file on my computer I always want to select the folder manually.

In about:preferences, I scroll down to "Applications," and see I have set PDFs to "always ask." But it doesn't always ask! I've also tried changing the setting to "Open in Firefox", and I get the same result: sometimes it opens in Firefox without saving, sometimes it saves it to my downloads and then opens in Firefox, and sometimes it asks.

What's going on? Why does it switch seemingly at random between these three behaviors regardless of my setting? How do I get it to stop saving things to my Downloads folder without asking?

EDIT: Oh whoops, I forgot to put my system information.
Linux Mint Cinnamon 21.1
Firefox Flatpak (currently 126, but it's been happening the same way for a long time).

timorl,
@timorl@social.wuatek.is avatar

@183231bcb I thought I had a solution for you, because I recently made it work the way I want, but it turns out in my case I just set it to “Save file” and it works consistently, but that’s not what you want. :/ You also might try going into about:config and setting pdfjs.disable to true, but I haven’t checked whether this actually works.

W dalszym ciągu rozważam właściwe słownictwo w odniesieniu do ekranów dotykowych.

As an aside, I find it amusing (in an extremely disturbing way) that the US government, as a whole, is now committed to redefining antisemitism to include critiques of Israel identical to those previously uttered by folks like checks notes Former US President Jimmy Carter and former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski.

Okay then...

@AnarchoNinaWrites It was a “well akshully” indended as a joke (they don’t call their officials antisemites, but if they actually tried going for a proper definition they would have to, even if not the ones you mentioned) – since the original comment was talking about amusement I wanted to join in, sorry that it didn’t land. :blobfoxmeltsob:

Technicznie rzecz biorąc, sporą część pracy związaniem z portowaniem paczek do Pythona 3.13 można zautomatyzować. W gruncie rzeczy, mamy już większość potrzebnych elementów — narzędzia, by znaleźć potencjalne paczki, zaktualizować PYTHON_COMPAT, uruchomić testy. Dlaczego więc robię to na wpół ręcznie?

Po pierwsze, daje mi to okazję, by zajrzeć w ebuildy.

Soo… say I have a couple ebuilds that are probably not great quality (approximately first ones I wrote), but work. How should I go about making these useful for other people? Perhaps even including them in the main gentoo repo? This is mostly about Request Tracker, which already is in the repo, albeit in an old version (and with a wrong makefile patch), plus some of it’s dependencies (some of which I updated, some that never were in the main repo).

@ScottE Unfortunetely, rule 11:

The primary purpose of GURU is to maintain packages not present in the Gentoo repository. Forking (overriding) actively maintained Gentoo packages into GURU is prohibited. If the package is moved to Gentoo, it should be removed from GURU.

And www-apps/rt is already in the main gentoo repo, so I’m not allowed to put that there. :blobfoxcry2:

“Reading the manual” still sometimes feels like a superpower. Just solved a problem I was very confused about – it turns out the confusion was due to assuming the person who created this originally knew what they were doing, but no, looking into the manual made it clear that they were just doing it wrong.

Imperial powers love to shroud their imperialism in the mantle of peace so much that they often have a specialized phrase for that. For modern examples we have “Pax Americana” and “Russkij Mir”. So, is there a Chinese equivalent?

timorl,
@timorl@social.wuatek.is avatar

@aris Interesting, that one’s much more directly about control and doesn’t reference peace. Then I probably misidentified the peace thing as a general imperialist trope, rather than only for imperia that consider themselves at least cultural descendants of Rome – “Pax Romana” being where the phrases probably come from. Thanks! :blobfoxsignthx:
