Telegram uses confusing language to pretend it is end-to-end encrypted by default. It is not — you have to enable that separately for each chat, and it only works for one-on-ones, not groups.
If you were allowed to use the landline in 1980's West-Germany, you always had the option to make a free call to "113": While 110 and 112 were for emergencies, 113 opened the door to a "Telegrammaufnahme". The #WebP buffer overflow bug that caused all the major browsers to issue patches earlier this week (e.g. #Firefox 117.0.1) also affects applications built with Electron. #1Password issued an update today for their Mac build.
The CVE affects the underlying webp library, not just web browsers, so this will be an ongoing issue.

Honestly, the whole modern trend of chat apps telling you once a contact has made an account is super creepy... so many "this person you met once 15 years ago has made an account". Why should I know that? ... why should they know that I made an account?
Or better yet "this person who you have cut out of your life and who you don't want to have a way to contact you has made an account". They even appear in your list of active chats and I don't want that #signal#telegram

Paper Plane (formerly Telegrand) is a really nice #Telegram client. It still misses a lot of features of the official client, but if you're fine with that, it gives you really great native experience on #Linux. And it works great on phones, too!
