Telegram has 700 million users and has always marketed itself as a "secure" and "private" messaging app, even though experts have repeatedly warned that Telegram is not as secure as end-to-end encrypted app Signal, for example.
To avoid leaking your IP address, you have to go to Telegram’s Settings > Privacy and Security > Calls, and then select "Never" in the Peer-to-Peer menu.

Videos showing extreme cruelty to baby monkeys are spreading rapidly on social media – especially Telegram, a popular encrypted messaging service.
In 2021, Lady Freethinker published a report in partnership with Action for Primates on one of the first big private monkey hater groups on Telegram – Milliontears.
Since then, countless other groups have formed on #Telegram to buy, sell, and share videos of horrifically gruesome acts of baby monkeys being tortured in unspeakable ways.
Telegram recently told BBC News that it was “committed to protecting user privacy and human rights such as freedom of speech” and that moderators “cannot proactively patrol private groups.”
#telegram raises walls around public channels for reasons unknown, discarding those not logged in. some channels have no preview from the web at all, others show only selected materials.

But of course there is. The russian-engineering, roll-your-own-crypto, cryptocoin-shilling, encrypted-but-not-encrypted messaging app to have a zero-day exploited privacy flaw exposing users' location? I can't imagine where such failures would come from.

The US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) account on X, formerly known as Twitter, displays a link to a Telegram channel for informants. But Kevin McSheehan was able to redirect potential CIA contacts to his own Telegram channel.'

> Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram, has recently been making a big conspiracy push to promote Telegram as more secure than Signal. This is like promoting ketchup as better for your car than synthetic motor oil. Telegram isn’t a secure messenger, full stop. That’s a choice Durov made.
Reminder that #Telegram is not secure communication. Most chats aren't end-to-end-encrypted to begin with, and even those that are use a strange custom-built algorithm rather than actual cryptographically sound algorithm such as the double-ratchet.
If you want actual secure communication, use #Signal, #Matrix, or even #WhatsApp (which is shit and will turn you in to the police but is still better than what Telegram).
