fuck #telegram why people think is secure? beats me, but here watch minute 7:16 https://vid.puffyan.us/watch?v=pjseaH7eX44 and STOP using telegram and whatsup!! :D use matrix or at least signal if your friends need something easy to use but matrix is the way.
so tired of #signal app. How can I criticize it when I’ve never used it I would like to use it. I would like to use it very much. However I don’t own a smart phone. Which means I can’t register a desktop app which intern means I can’t use signal as even trying to create a virtual I machine running, android to download the mobile app to register my desktop app. Which failed. I don’t care how much you improve it until you’re actually inclusive. Signal is not a good app. You might also want to think about who are the people they don’t have access to their own smart phone. Think about other ways for users to register without a smart phone please. (running macos desktop)
Something tells me #Telegram aren't dealing with their telegraph #spam problem. Most spam i'm receiving lately contains these #telegraph links. I don't even know if there's a way to report them.
• I've actually had an easier time keeping up with Slack than in Slack itself
• Initially I ran clients side by side but Beeper updates just as fast and I've since stopped running most except for Discord which I use for calls
• Even so, it's great to run it in parallel to Discord, because it's easier to text chat in Beeper while in a video call
I have telegram because it was really easy to set up a bot and a bash script to send messages to it-basically my own little notifications app. But it’s also the only thing I use telegram for. What’s a good alternative? Free and open source preferred. Self hosting as well
Einfach ignorieren. 😉
“Telegram has launched a pretty intense campaign to malign Signal as insecure, with assistance from Elon Musk” | @matthew_d_green
> Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram, has recently been making a big conspiracy push to promote Telegram as more secure than Signal. This is like promoting ketchup as better for your car than synthetic motor oil. Telegram isn’t a secure messenger, full stop. That’s a choice Durov made.
#ISW, May 8 assessment: "Reports indicate that there is an available open-source tool that allows people to search by specific coordinates for Telegram users who have enabled a certain location-sharing setting."
But of course there is. The russian-engineering, roll-your-own-crypto, cryptocoin-shilling, encrypted-but-not-encrypted messaging app to have a zero-day exploited privacy flaw exposing users' location? I can't imagine where such failures would come from.
Tiens, tiens...
Honestly have no idea why Telegram is popular with so many Plebs. There are so many reasons to not use Telegram (a centralized platform):
All the comm leaks, the false sense of security their copywriting suggests (not e2ee by default), banning users, collecting user metadata, bot access to your ID and metadata, storing your data on 3rd party servers...using their own proprietary e2ee protocol, MTProto with a history of security flaws, the list goes on and on...
I strongly suggest avoiding it if you value your privacy and security.
This is just of the many tweets that are flooding Twitter these days praising Telegram and discouraging users from using Signal with stupid NSA and FBI conspiracy theories.
Under no scenario you should have Telegram installed on your phone. It's basically the Hulk Hogan of E2EE apps
#Cybersecurity#Telegram#Messaging#Geolocation: "A recently launched tool allows anyone to search a specific set of coordinates for Telegram users that have a certain setting enabled, and then plot their approximate physical location on a map, according to 404 Media’s own tests. The tool, dubbed “Close-Circuit Telegram Vision” or CCTV, piggybacks off an intended feature of Telegram called “Find People Nearby” which is disabled by default. The typical purpose of that feature is to find other Telegram users nearby to the current user’s physical location. The new tool, meanwhile, lets anyone search globally for people who have the setting turned on.
The news presents a recontextualization of data which users may consent to being available in one context, but which is now being presented in another.
“They have a protection mechanism but it's not enough to protect,” Ivan Glinkin, a cybersecurity professional and creator of CCTV, said in an online chat."
