#Followerpower. Die Überarbeitung der Messenger-Matrix ist nun vollständig abgeschlossen. Über einen Tipp/Klick auf Teilen würde ich mich riesig freuen, damit sich die Messenger-Übersicht (weiter) verbreitet. ❤️ 👍
@Tutanota DuckDuck and Brave products shouldn't be on this list. They are not fully private. They also been caught lying to users and even more than once. Not by some accidental mistake but on the purpose. Such companies can not be trusted anymore!
And for example #Jami can be added to the listing as an another foss, private, very decent made communicator.
Just switched my browser to #firefox from Chrome. Mainly because of their privacy policies and lack of data mining. However, I use Google Meet, which just doesn't run as well on non-Chrome browsers. Any advice?
I am torn between on one hand my usual attitude of not recommending any technology for communication of sensitive data as they usually all suck, and mostly depend on golden-prison user-hostile environments like Android or iOS;
and on the other hand my enthusiasm for the underlying principles of Simplex.chat as a young piece of software with very promising and forward thinking ideas (reminding somehow of pond, for those who knew of/used it):
#AutoHébergement
Coucou le Fediverse.
Je cherche un truc auto-hébergeable : un chat web qui puisse accueillir texte, image et fichiers.
Si possible avec des salons de discussion protégeables par mot de passe.
For the past few days me and @pitcatzoo have talked securely and privately via Jami @Jami I am totally impressed at how fast it is. You should try everyone!
Jami: A Versatile Cross-platform Open-Source Peer-to-Peer Decentralized Communication App
I can’t believe I last did a proper post about Jami as far back as 2019 last. I mention it a lot, and it was included run a debate today on my Friendica site, but I realised it does deserve a proper feature post of its own.
@danie10
Just wish it was working! Used it for about a year and the level of bugs I've seen in #Jami is a total different league than other messaging tools out there. The last straw was when for the second time it completely wiped the chat off the app and I had to sms the contact to get their ID again, but the whole chat history was long gone!
It is the least reliable platform. RFC 2549 is way more reliable:
finally got a whole group of friends to move our groupchat to #Jami, and we are all loving it. theres no worries about federation, you don't even need to provide an email address, making it as easy to use as downloading an app (getting non-technical people to do anything more is like pulling teeth). Theres no central server that your messages pass through, eliminating a class of worries.
It provides everything any user of mainstream apps expect, and has lots of customization options. Why aren't you using it 🤔
I try to avoid voice and video calls at all costs but are there viable (as in simple , multiplatform and reliable) open-source video calling apps nowadays ?
@santiago While not open source, Discord is multi-platform, has good video quality, and isn't owned by a huge tech company. It is what I use for this sort of thing personally.
If open source is a hard requirement, I might suggest looking into #matrix and #jami . That being said I haven't used either of those for videoconferencing before, so I won't vouch for their quality. Best of luck!
Service-Toot: Die Messenger-Matrix wurde aktualisiert. Die Empfehlung für Threema wurde angepasst, nachdem nun ein formaler Sicherheitsaudit für das Krypto-Protokoll vorliegt.
"Last year we introduced swarms for one-to-one conversations. Since then, it allows users to synchronize a conversation across all their devices. However, this is only a small part Swarms allow us to do. The main goal of this technology is to allow us to have conversations with multiple participants.
For some months now, we are slowly making conversations with small groups (8 people) available on all platforms..."
@rml
I think #jami is an amazing project and would really like to use it, but last time I tried it out with someone in my family (on Android) we weren't receiving all messages. I still have installed, though. Maybe one day...
