finally got a whole group of friends to move our groupchat to #Jami, and we are all loving it. theres no worries about federation, you don't even need to provide an email address, making it as easy to use as downloading an app (getting non-technical people to do anything more is like pulling teeth). Theres no central server that your messages pass through, eliminating a class of worries.
It provides everything any user of mainstream apps expect, and has lots of customization options. Why aren't you using it 🤔
@rml last time I tried it was not really stable. It worked fine but sometimes for example I could not add a contact no matter how often we tried and I had problems with the desktop app. So we switched to other messengers like briar which felt more reliable. But maybe we should give it a new try?
@iak its always been pretty stable for me with the #guix and #fdroid packages, in the 2 years I've been using it. voice calls can vary, but the chat system works great
