Shop sign in Connaught Place, New Delhi, India. I love this sign because a) it is painted and b) it has on one side a hookah and on the other an iPhone. I love the contrast between traditional and modern.

Photo taken 21 September 2023.

StabilnoLabilno, to Cats

"The best part of it all is that the cathedral actually had #cats on the payroll throughout the 14th and 15th centuries — 13 pence a quarter, according to written records. It’s unclear how the cats received their wages, but the idea of a feline friend being sent off with a sack of pennies for its services is a darling vision for the mind’s eye."

#Geography people, this is an absolutely fascinating discussion of how olive oil production got started, the trade, and its effect on the development of the #Levant. Really freaking #interesting.

Been such an #interesting and #hilarious #read. Never enjoyed reading history before this book.

400 years of slavery. Made me recollect a convo with a friend. I asked her why do u think India still needs rules favouring lower caste. She wisely said many generations of suppression cannot be made right just by one generation of opportunities.

Neat post from @nessita on avoiding (maybe for your use-case) unwanted migrations when a #django model field's choices change. A good tool to have in the box 🔨

Most of my meditation clients are virtual. I cannot tell you how many interesting things have happened behind a client as I guided them through meditation, unbeknownst to the client. 😆

mftassano,

@dancinyogi Haha! I'm sure #interesting things go on behind everyone's back! To be otherwise would require each of us to be the center of the universe. I would find that an extreme burden.

The #fediverse version of #reddit r/place open #canvas on #lemmy has just ended and it looks beautiful!

To those who don't know: Each logged in user is allowed to place one pixel on the canvas per minute (or 30 secs? don't remember exactly) and a lot of users took part in creation of this!

Here's a lemmy thread about it: https://lemmy.world/post/2791182

How Disney's Magical Trash Tubes Ended Up In New York City

At Disney World, the Magic Kingdom uses a system of pneumatic tubes to keep trash out of sight for park visitors. While this was supposed to be the future of waste disposal, only one other place in the US uses something like it on a similar scale: Roosevelt Island in New York City.

TIL about the Puss Caterpillar, it may look harmless with its soft and furry appearance, but it conceals venomous spines that can cause excruciating pain upon contact that even morphine struggles to quell. (en.wikipedia.org)

"The inch-long larva is generously coated in long, luxuriant hair-like setae, making it resemble a tiny Persian cat, the characteristic that presumably gave it the name "puss". It is variable in color, from downy grayish white to golden brown to dark charcoal gray. It often has a streak of bright orange running longitudinally....

If I let #Firefox for #Android install Mastodon as it's own app it breaks the reply function 🤔 😡 but if I view it in Firefox proper it works.

To the people complaining that there aren't enough artists here: are you following any art hashtags? Actually, same question to people who say mastodon doesn't have enough of whatever! Just follow some hashtags! Trust me if you do soon enough your feed will be absolutely drowning in your interest unless it's super niche

And then you can follow people who pop up on there, and maybe even eventually unfollow the hashtag

CynAq,

@eniko I love how this whole conversation about the importance of #hashtags for using #mastodon is almost completely devoid of any hashtags, especially about #art, #photography etc.

One would think #addinglotsofhashtags would be helpful for the visibility of this #advice, but #whoknows?

Maybe we should have a day of #HashTagGames about the most #interesting hashtags for people to follow.

Also, does anybody know if we can follow hashtags on #Calckey outside of the #Antennas function?
