There is no doubt that Mark Meadows or Georgia will appeal the removal decision and it will likely reach #SCOTUS on the shadow docket. Guess who will review it first--Justice Thomas. As we know--he won't recuse himself nor is he required to do so. He could stall the proceedings pending full Court review.

The legal profession is due for a reckoning. Lawyers are guardians of the rule of law. We need to reassert that role--in law schools and within the bar.

In an 11p ruling, #NY Supreme Court #Justice Juan Merchan said it would not be in the public interest for him to step down from the case, which involves #HushMoney payments during the 2016 campaign & was the first of 3 #criminal#indictments filed against #Trump since March.
Trump’s #lawyers said #Merchan should be disqualified from overseeing the case based on a $15 donation he made to Democrat Joe Biden’s campaign in 2020 & two $10 donations he made to political orgs that oppose Republicans.
Three years later and my blood sill boils when I listen to Trump’s calls to Georgia. And three years later he still sounds desperate and pathetic. And three years later I still cannot believe how many people, especially lawyers(!), enabled and assisted his delusional efforts to undermine our election.

I tell law students that attorneys owe a duty to clients and we owe a duty to society--attorneys are guardians of the rule of law. There may be times when you have to choose. The 2020 election represents one of those times.
Five of the six unindicted co-conspirators are attorneys and I know there are more that contributed--including members of Congress. That’s a problem.
Alito issues an advisory opinion in the WSJ claiming Congress does not have the authority to regulate SCOTUS ethics. To make his point and in a big “FU”, he is interviewed by and the piece is written by a Washington attorney with a case pending before the Court.
Something I've noticed about many (perhaps even most) of the #lawyers here on #Mastodon is that there seems to be less of a tendency to correct every inaccuracy, however minor, that might arise in a comment or reply, or demonstrate their superior knowledge or experience by inserting themselves into a thread started by another lawyer in an effort to play the one-upsmanship game...

Example: Coca Cola closes Sprite and Sprite is no longer made, marketed, sold.
